I especially liked the comparison to the Bushnell 12x25 compacts, which are binoculars many people are likely to own. Having owned and used Bushnell/Tasco 12x25 binocs, and being disappointed with the night time performance, I was pleased to read that the superior optics gave good night time views through this little gem. Although a pair of pocket binoculars will never be the first choice for astronomy, the Steiners are a useful tool for night time use. They look great! Makes me want to buy a pair. I couldn't immediately find confirmation on the Steiner webpage whether or not these have phase coatings. Does the documentation that came with them say anything about this? I would also appreciate if you could comment on how bright they are in daylight (sunshine) conditions compared to your Bushnells. In conditions where the eye pupil is smaller than the exit pupil, this is a good (comparative) test for light transmission. I will run them side by side with the Bushnells and let you know. I do know that when observing the Moon the Bushnells showed greater detail. The combination of greater magnification combined with larger aperture was apparent. Not the Bushnell 12X25.
