Hello
I'm starting on my ideas for my pier in both pipe and concrete and now looking at various options and ideas for the top plate. In the past I remember seeing some homemade to retail to custom versions of various ways of mounting the head. Is there a post, site and pics to look at? Thank you.

I bought one of these, and the owner, Curt, was absolutely wonderful to work with! And they are custom made.. http://www.opticalsupports.com/mount_adapters.html
I considered this before going with the opticalsupports version. http://www.altairastro.com/product.php?productid=16169&cat=275&page=1
You will love the way a mount performs on a solid pier..it is like night and day! Good luck!

Mine falls into the homemade/custom category: I wanted my Atlas on a newly aquired Losmandy G11 tripod. I machined the center of the top plate (6" dia.) to accept the Atlas center pin, and then milled an aluminum block to clamp it to the top plate.

Oh wow, I researched this topic a while back, but I never came across that one from Starizona. Very nice looking at a good (IMO) price.
Thanks for the link!

That Starizona adapter looks like it's for a CGEM but maybe I'm not looking at the right part. Here's how I did it:

I just bought the pier extension from Orion and stole the plate from it , they used to sell it separate and have a spot on there website for it but it permanently back ordered.

As did I Erik.
I went for the best price, on something specifically made for the Atlas mount, so I bought the Atlas extension post, and mounted it atop my concrete pier. Works like a charm, and was the best buy of all adapter plates I looked at.
For ease of installation, I replaced the original 6" steel post with a 4" aluminum post of the same ID/OD.
The aluminum plate centers and steadies the post, and the L-brackets insure it never moves.
The post is not set into the concrete. It rests on top of it.
