Rosette sketch
      #4414370 - 02/27/11 07:27 AM Attachment (53 downloads)

I've got a lot of sketches that I haven't had time to rework, but I decided to get this one done today.
It's of the rosette nebula at x50 magnification. Completely unfiltered
The rosette was somewhere around 30 degrees altitude.

Instrument used: 12" f/5 dobsonian.

A black on white background and inverted comparison

Hrundi,

An excellent observation of the Rosette Nebula. This large emission nebula in Monoceros requires a dark sky and some aperture to detect. It spans over a degree in angular diameter. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

Thanks I'm still kind of surprised that I saw that brighter "arm".
In general, it was difficlt to find the outlines of features in the nebulae, as the region did have more glow than I drew - it was just generally somewhat too diffuse and not defined enough to be able to actually draw it.
