Does anyone make an illuminated polar scope for the CG-5 mount? If not, is there some type of method one person can use to illuminate the polar scope?

Here's one from Donnie D that is easy and cheap. I used a mini Maglite I had lying around for the illuminator.

Wouldn't that be too bright? How could you see Polaris? How did you tone down the light intensity?

Jimmy,
It works just fine. I have new batteries in the Maglite and you can see Polaris with no problem. Other than the Maglite, which was a promotional hand out, this project cost me $1.28.

If you find the light is a little to bright use a bit of the wifes red nailpolish on the lens.

I used a losmandy polar scope in mine. You can swap the stock internal barrel with the losmandy barrel so the polarscope fits fine although you have to remove the polar scope at teardown because it sticks out farther than the rear cap will allow.

So, the losmandy scope is lighted and it screws into the celestron mount? I never tear down my scope since it is on wheels and in the garage.
