Hey, would it be worthwhile to use my 130 on the Virgo supercluster when it's too blamed cold to drag out the Nexstar 8? Enlighten me. Clear Dark Skies!! WW

Is the nexstar 8 that heavier? Stuff does not get heavier with decreasing temperature, eh? 
It's still worthwhile to look at with the 130, but it's even more worthwhile to lug the Nexstar 8 which brings twice as much light gathering - non of which will be lost on 11th mag galaxies.

Merci, Beacoup. I was thinking about the hand controller. I could break out the handwarmers again. I'd probably need one or two for me, as the wind chill is about -5F right now. WW

You'll need it. If you don't keep it in your pocket or near a hand warmer you probably won't be able to read it.
LCD displays definately don't like the cold. When I'm out on a 35 degree night or so, mine is still slow to respond. Not so bad that it's hard to read, but much slower.

I've had my Nexstar controller out in temps as low as -6F.
While the display is slow, and eventually becomes somewhat difficult to read, it still functions properly. During the first few minutes, I will perform the GPS alignment while the display is operating fine. Then, when the effects of temperature appear, I'm still able to enter various M, NGC, etc numbers and pan around using the keys, but seeing what I am entering on the display becomes difficult. Eventually the effects of temperature get to me, and I head for heat. I do worry some about thermal shock to the controller when I bring it inside, but so far haven't had a problem.
