Celestron Power Tank 17 Issue new
      #4430742 - 03/06/11 06:52 PM

Yeah, so I take out my Powertank to use it, its dead, was left in CHA for a few weeks, I put the unit in the OFF position and plugged in the adapter, ensuring that it was set to the proper voltage and I switched it to the CHA position and two lights came on with that dreaded ZZZzzzzzzz sound then nothing, I can flip off and on to charge then it happens again an shuts off. I checked the Fuse, it looks fine, so I am wondering, do I leave it charging for a but without a charging light and see if anything happens?

If its toast, which I charged maybe 15 times over the last 4 years, what else can I get that will provide clean power to a CGEM mount for hours and hours! I might even want to power my Nexguide as well. If I can get 15 hours on a charge to power both I would be happy, but I have no issues using the battery pack that comes with the Nexguider either.

I just dont want this to happen to mine: http://youtu.be/c3AeNEgnRhQ sounds like a bad power pulse or underpowered.

Anything I can get from Canadian Tire would be awesome!

A 75 to 115AH deep cycle marine battery is the only way to go. $60-$80 and will go for days on a charge.

How do you set it up with a 12v cigarette plugs and do you leave it on a charger when not in use?

dont let them sit discharged, that will damage batteries. get a good AGM deep cycle for a replacement. that CGEM sounds like it has an over-tightened worm gear to me.

I had a similar problem with mine I took it apart ,allot of screws, and hooked it directly to my trikle charger VIOLA!

It worked I got lucky though I also left mine in charge mode

Another option is too replace the battery. Batteries Plus has them for around 50.00 You just have to take all the screws out and carefully pry apart the 2 plastic case halves

Any jumpstart type battery (including the Celestron) will work well and last along time...IF...

--You charge for 12 hours after each use.

--You charge for 12 hours each month if the battery has not been used.

The elcheapo 17ah job I got from Walmart in 2002 is still goin' strong.

I went to my local electronics parts store, not the Shack, and bought a replacement battery for $17 dollars. Shop around and save some cash.
