Discmount DM6 question
      #4446303 - 03/13/11 09:24 AM

I'm considering a DM-6. I have a DM-4 on a Berlebach UNI 19C. Would this tripod work with the DM-6 also? Here are the specs on the UNI 19C -

- Weight: 15.65 lb.
- Transportation length: 38 inch
- Minimum height: 21 inch
- Maximum height: 70 inch
- Load capacity: 44.09 lb.

It's a terrific tripod for the DM-4 but is it sturdy enough for DM-6?

Thanks
Bill

Hello Bill,
The DM-6 weighs 16.2lbs on its own - I'd get another, higher rated tripod, really.

Regards,

skybsd

I found even the Uni 24 was not enough, there was over 3 seconds of damping time with my 6" refractor. The DM6 tripod is much better.

I use the Planet and it is rock solid but heavy--the whole system is over 40lbs (with 8" extension, handle, etc). It stays on my screened in porch and I don't have to carry it far into the backyard--so it works great for me. YMMV.

The DM-6 tripod is more than adequate for that mount. You can certainly use the G11 tripod under it, but unless you're putting something hefty, like a C11 on the DM-6 mount, you don't need that much capacity.

Thanks for all th suggestions.

Portability is a major factor but so is stability. I would like to find a tripod which I could carry (with DM-6 attached) from the house to the backyard. A combined weight of 30 lbs would be nice, 40 lbs is ok, 50 lbs is too heavy.

Bill

My DM-6 plus the Discmount tripod weigh about 30 pounds.

I use a Meade Field Tripod.

Meade Field Tripod + Losmandy adapter + homemade 8" extension + DM6

It's quite solid.
