hey guys..the weight load according to orion is 30 and 20 lbs. is this a valid statement? trying to figure out if i need to spend the $200 extra for 10lbs if the 20lb load lighter sirius would actually hold 30..steadily for video or AP..thanks

Sirius will handle 30 pounds but Atlas will handle it *much* better.... i.e. better dampening times, handles wind, etc.

The Atlas is a significantly larger and more robust mount (which is where your $250 is going) at the price of being quite a bit heavier than the Sirius.

Bottom line, go Sirius if your main criteria is weight. But bang-for-the-buck, Atlas all the way.

My experience:

I have a Sirius, my friend + has an Atlas, we both mount 8 inch Newts, with a small refractor piggybacked. Both around 27 pounds total.

Sirius is rated 30lbs, Atlas 40lbs.

Figure 1/2 for AP on either mount and if your young and healthy and don't mind the extra weight of the Larger mount
then Atlas would be the best buy
