Hello. I'm thinking of buying either the nexstar SE mount or the ioptron cube pro mount. If someone out there has any experience with the ioptron mount, I would be greatful to hear what you have to say. How's the tracking accuracy, can u use an 8 OTA with it. Kind regards! David

I have a cube pro as long as the scope size is not to long or heavy it will work fine I use mine with a tv 85 or c6. The only issue I had with mine was alt knob would loosen if not balanced properly. Other than that tracking & hand control works very well for the price. hth Pete

Thank you Pete for your answer. I have a 4.5 reflector that I would use with cube mount. Do you think it can carry a c8 in as well? I'm gonna buy a tube in the future. The weight limit is 12 lbs I think, same as the SE mount. This is interesting. David

The 4.5 reflector won't/shouldn't be an issue. You could go with a C5 or C6 without an issue. But a C8 on the stock legs might give you longer dampening time. Definetly need to upgrade from the stock legs.
Last year, I put a VMC200L into the arsenal, and while I was taking delivery at the shop, I saw a Cube Pro, a Mini Tower and a Mini Tower Pro.
I was fortunate to be there at the right time and tried all three. I ended up taking the MT Pro for several reasons, but the main was the load capacity of the mount. Since then I have used it with, a Skywatcher 150mm f8 refractor( mediocre mounting due to the momentum/lever of the tube) a Skywatcher 200mm f5 newtonian( o.k. but the hum of the motors is resonating into the tube, sounds like gnats, just turn up the ear buds to 11), of course the Vixen VMC200L ( so far the most used in 2011 at 9 sessions and counting, most stable setup next to the Heq5/eq6),80's Celestron C8(was a loaner from a friend, very stable as was the Vixen).
I also have used it in two scope fashion with Synta 127 Mak vs. late 70's Celestron C5 shoot out ( sorry imo the mak won hands down...lol When the sun decides to make an appearance I like putting the PST up with a Tak FC 60/white solar filter.
Hope this helps...

Thanks Pete and Larry for some great information! I think I will go for the SE mount or maybe save a little more money and then buy the nexstar 8SE telescope. It seems to be a little bit more stabil than the ioptron cube pro, at least to carry a 8 OTA. Thanks a lot everyone! David

How about a iOptron Mini Tower (not pro) how "bad" is the tripod?
I would like to use it with 5" Celestron SCT?
