I read somewhere that the Sirius EQ-G mount is a clone of a Takahashi model. Does anybody knows exactly which one? The point is, I don't like to have my Sirius on it's original tripod, since it's the same as my CG-4, and CG-5 2" tripods are hard to come by. Which tripod models are compatible with the Sirius?

It's a knockoff of an EM-10 BUT (1) I don't know that the tripod hub is the same and (2) a Tak tripod would probably cost as much as a complete Sirius mount with tripod.

Heq5 =(Orion Sirius) is a lighten version of EQ6 (=Orion Atlas) which is a "clone" of Taka EM200 (they copy the basic design). But otherwise, HEQ5 is similar to Taka EM10.

"Clone" generally implies a direct copy. I would say those mounts mentioned were "inspired" by the Taks.

Yeah, and I love my Sirius, but I think that its tripod is inferior for a mount as nice as this one. Or is it that the CG4 has too much tripod? Anyway, I dont want a Tak tripod (too expensive), but other compatible good tripods in addition to the CG5 tripod. Have others similar thoughts?

If the CG5 tripod will fit, then an LXD75 tripod will fit.

My reasoning is that since SVP mount extension that I use works for the CG5 tripod from what I have read elsewhere, and it works for my CG4 and Sirius tripods, then the CG5 tripod works for me. Is the LXD75 tripod leg diameter 2"?

The very first production run was not, but all subsequent production is.

No, I don't think the Sirius (HEQ-5) hub is the same as the 2" GP, CG-5 or LXD-75. I think it's the same as the CGEM and Atlas' (HEQ-6). These tripods trade about $150-200.

Now we have an interesting discussion here. I use the SVP mount extension with my Sirius, and I know it's not compatible with the Atlas (there is a different extension for it). And the SVP and the CG5 are almost the same.

The SVP extension works for the Sirius. I had one. The sirius uses the same hub dimensions as the CG-5 and LXD-75 (and Vixen GP as well). Not the same as the Atlas. I had an Atlas as well and the CG-5 tripod would not work. Different thread size as well on the Center bolt. Seems strange but it's true.

I can attest that the Sirius is not the same as Atlas, it is definitely the CG-5 variety.
