Is this a practical idea? I'm thinking of piggybacking a ST80 to a AT6RC on a CG5 mount. I'm a little afraid that because of the weird positions frequently encountered on an EQ mount that it would not work out.
The main reason I want a second scope is not for guiding but to have a wide field scope available. Thanks; Don T.

I don't think you'd go wrong with the ADM mini-dovetail.
A second option—one that I'm using— is a side-by-side mount.

I've had a 70mm refractor piggybacked on top of an 8" Newtonian mounted on an HEQ5 without any problems. As long as everything can be balanced and you keep the scope higher above the ground than the counterweights, you should never have a problem. The only time I've had the scope lower than the counterweights is when I've been running periodic error tests and have to track through the meridian without a pier side flip.
