To align the two scopes vertically, I found an object between a mile and two miles away, lined up the first, loosened the set screws and attempted to align the second. When I went to tighten the set screws the image traveled up in the second scope, and when I slewed the mount around and then rechecked the vertical alignment, the image had traveled upward and totally out of the FOV. I'm thinking that I did not tightened the set screws down enough, but with the travel of the image when I tightened them, I was concerned that it would become worse. Then loosen the setscrews and adjust the vertical alignment on the second scope til its aligned with the first. The setscrews need to be re-tightned very firmly but be careful not to strip them out! Sometimes I'd go through this process and still find that something slightly shifted--gotta do it again!! I've done this by figuring out which way the alignment needs to be adjusted and then placing a thin shim between the dovetail and the appropriate ring. How thick the shim needs to be will be dependent upon how much adjustment is required--it's kinda trial and error to get it just right but it doesn't take too much. I just used some thin cardboard and stacked pieces until I got the right number in there to correct the alignment.
