CG5 tripod compatability?
      #4519024 - 04/14/11 10:54 PM

I bought a CG5 from ebay and guess what , It needs repair. Celestrons reputation for length of time required for repairs being what it is I'm looking for a mount to fit the CG5 tripod while it is being repaired.
What mounts will fit the tripod with little or no adaptation? I prefer a mount that has RA drive available as an add on. If I can find something sturdy enough I may decide to forget repairing the CG5 head Thanks; Don T.

Hehe, I just inquired for a CG5 tripod today on the classifieds (I think it was from you, but I could be mistaken)... Your are looking for the mount, and I am looking for the tripod... irony.

Anyway, here is the list of the ones I know are compatible:

Orion Astroview
Celestron CG4
Celestron CG5 (duh)
Orion Sky View Pro
Orion EQ-G Sirius
Meade LXD75???????

I don't know about the Skywatcher mounts, but for sure there are several compatible, as they are made also by Synta.

Hey thanks! yep, I'm debating abought repairing the CG5Pro (computer) or possibly changing it back to the old style CG5 with no computer. I'm not sure if this can be done but there are slow mo controls under all that plastic. Thanks again, Don T.

The Vixen GP looks like the same thing as the CG5. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks; Don

Yes Don

Vixen GP, GP2, GPD2 (but not Vixen Sphinx, or as designated SX series) or to put it another way Vixen tripods for "GP" series all interchange with the following

Orion: Astroview, SVP, Sirius

Celestron: CG4, CG5

Sky Watcher: EQ3, EQ5, HEQ5

or in other words all of the above are interchangeable

The stud that poking out has a different height.
