Looking through my guiding eyepiece, such as during drift alignment, the TrueTrack drive on my SkyView Pro mount shows a slow but visible oscillation in one direction that appears to have about a 20 second cycle. Looking at the drive motor in operation, each tooth of the drive motor appears to pass a point in about 18.9 seconds. This would correspond to the teeth of the drive motor engaging the worm gear and would account for the oscillation of my stars, and perhaps my oblong star images. Since this suggests poor gear design can anyone recommend a fix, other than replacing the mount?
Would this oscillation be correctable with guiding? Can guiding (PHD) keep up with periodic error this fast?
Assuming I keep this, would you recommend a faster camera speed (DSI)? Would .5 accomplish it, or can PHD pick up error this fast and adequately correct for it?
