Hi all!
Here are some Jupiter sketches made in 2010 from my observation log( a little bit late though ). All are made with a 8" f/6 Dobson, 300x and a Baader Neodymium filter. A wealth of detail and modification are visible. The best night with the best seeing was the 22th Sep.(on Pickering scale the seeing was ~8 with moments of 9), at the eyepice Jupiter looked like photograph with lots of details.

That are a lot of fine sketches!
Can you tell me more about the Baader Neodymium filter?

Amazing sketches! I've heard that the Moon & Skyglow filter helps with observing Mars. Apparently it works with Jupiter, too.

Thanks!I found that Baader M&S enhance the contrast for planetary details, makes a little easier for details to pop up.The general color tone that the filter induce is cooler-white.I use it for all major planets: for Venus, the planet's cusp are more obvious, for Mars & Jupiter I found that it makes a general contrast booster both for red&blue albedo features, subtle banding on Saturn is somewhat more evident. The Baader M&S filter at some degree(depending on light pollution) blackness the background sky. Hope it helps!

Catalin,
Thank you very much for sharing your excellent observations of Jupiter made in 2010. You have captured much detail across the jovian disk. It is interesting to watch the development of the Great Red Spot (GRS), North Equatorial Belt (NEB), and South Temperate Belt (STB) over time on your fine observations. Thank you for sharing them with us all. I look forward to your future observations on the forum.

Very nice sequence of sketches showing the changes on Jupiter last summer / fall.
Well done.

You had a successful session! Tons of fine details. Your sketches show how Jupiter's atmosphere is changing and which features stay for a nlonger time.

Lovely drawings of Jupiter. The first time I looked at this post I was a little overwhelmed by seeing so many all presented at once, but I just took some time to look at the best ones in detail and I am really impressed with the featured recorded especially in the NEB, and around the GRS. To catch this with an 8" Newtonian is impressive. Can I suggest you try to print oval templates to draw into? Although you have done an amazing job of drawing the oval shape by hand I think that such fine drawings would benefit from a perfectly shaped outline....
Once you get over the amount of drawings on show here there are many advantages to seeing them all side by side; the effects of seeing conditions are shown clearly, for example with the sketches made on the 13th and the 21st October. Also because of the series of drawings presented like this we can 'watch' oval BA squeezing its way past the Great Red Spot which is very pleasing to watch.
I am quite intrigued by the Neodymium filter too, might have to try that.
many thanks

Thanks! It was a very good Jupiter session indeed. I use a template to outline the planet disk, maybe the perspective distorted the drawn disk because I shot the observation log and not scanned. With patience at the ocular for those fleeting moments of good seeing a wealth of details can be seen with a 8". For me the Baader S&M filter performs quite well.
