1.25" Visual Backs for a C8 new
      #4541575 - 04/24/11 06:15 PM

Is there a quality 1.25” visual back available for a Celestron C8 SCT? The one that came with my C8 only has 1 thumbscrew and I would like one with a compression ring if possible.

I like my 1.25” Vixen diagonal and don’t have a need for a 2” diagonal. Or do they make a 1.25” adapter for a 2” visual back?

Thanks

I recommend a Baader ClickLock clamp; the necessary adapter to SC thread is at the bottom of that page.

If you think you might ever want to try a 2" diagonal, then go for a 2" ClickLock right away.

Thanks those Baaders look nice but I was hoping for just a plain 1.25" visual back with a compression ring. It doesn't look like anyone makes one.

My older Celestron VB only has one thumbscrew and it looks like the new Celestron VB has two. For now I will just order the newer version and see how well it works.

Did you check Astro-physics?? I know they make a 3 screw back for the bigger M and C scts.

Crawford Machine will make you a visual back with a compression ring.

I looked at Astro-Physics and everywhere else I could think of. Lots of choices for 2" visual backs but not 1.25". I doubt I will ever go to a 2" eyepiece with my C8 so I don't see the need to get a 2" diagonal.

I am thinking Crawford Machine would charge more than I would want to spend to do a one off part? Or would they? I will send them an email and check it out. Thanks

What I and many others have done is use a 2" SCT adapter with a 2"-1.25" compression ring adapter in that. I don't know that I would purchase that solution since a decent 2" dielectric diagonal such as Astro-Tech is not too expensive. But many of us have all kinds of adapters lying around.
