I've been in this game for more than forty years, yet I think this is my first go at drawing the Sun. Recently made a Solar filter with Baader Solar film and observed the Sun with my 80mm f/7 Triplet refractor mounted on an Alt-Azimuth mount.
First low-power view was wonderful. Easily saw sunspot 1195 and a tiny 1196, on the preceding limb was a bright patch/sunspot which I think was 1193. The highlight for me was the incredibly large mass of faculae on the northern part of the following limb. I cannot ever remember seeing the faculae in such a large noticeable quantity before.
Also used a yellow and orange filter on the eyepiece at times. Easter was very warm here, and how nice it was to be able to observe in a T-shirt for a change. I can never work out the position of the of the Sun's tilt, so have marked the drawing as it appeared in the diagonal and moved across the field of view.

Rutilus,
Very nice sketching on the now very active sun. If it ever becomes visible at my location I'm going to have a look. Thanks for posting.

Rutilus,
An impressive set of solar observations. The sunspot groups and faculae are very interesting, as you point out. I am glad that you had a fun solar observing session. Thank you for sharing them with us all.

Fine sketches! You see more detail than me on the sun. I never saw faculae. Now I know what to look for. Thanks.

Jef, try an APM 1.25" Herschel wedge on your 80 mm WO, and you'll see faculae and granulation all the time in anything but the poorest seeing.
To Rutilus: nice sketches! I especially like the high-powered ones.

Thank you everyone for the comments. I observed the Sun this morning, and was surprised to see another large spot (1199)in the North. Faculae was visible in the equatorial region on the preceding and following limb, but not as bright as it was on the 25th. Also faculae visible around sunspot 1195.
