CGE mount fundamentals new

I'm doing a Pempro analysis on my CGE. Does anyone know what the fundamentals are?

Thanks,
Tommy

I suggest that you join: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CGE-TelescopesUNCENSORED/

There is a wealth of information about about tuning and operating. Pempro is a frequent topic.

Best regards,
Paul

Turns out someone asked this back in February without any reply. I'm hoping someone can help. Thanks, Tommy

What fundamentals do you need to know.

Hi Luke,
In PEMPRO there are two type of harmonics that can be removed. The first are the frequencies associated with the worm, the second is for "known mount fundamentals". PEMPro has EQ6 and a few other included, but none for CGE. When doing the refine method this would be useful to know.
Thanks, Tommy

Tommy,

That was me that asked over on the CGE group back in February. I've done a fair bit of digging on this one and have not been able to locate this information. At this point, I've almost given up trying to find it. I don't know that it would be too difficult to calculate it, but I just don't know what all items need to be considered to do this.

I'd be very curious to see if anyone here has this information or could let us know how to calculate it.

Hi Scott,

Surely someone on the greatest repository of knowledge on the planet (aka "cloudynights.com") knows this stuff. lol.

If any one knows I bet Ed Thomas does?

Tommy

Tommy,

Are these fundamentals the worm period, and the gear frequencies (reduction factor, etc.)?

If so I've seen these discussed years ago in the Yahoo/group, it was some threads about replacing the gear box (I didn't save the info ... sorry).

Can you look at the EQ6 info in PEMPro to see what the values look like?

Hi Mark,

Yes, that's what they will be. I'll have to double check but last time I looked at the EQ6 fundamentals, thinking they may be the same, but they didn't match the actual curve.

Cheers, Tommy

Tommy:

RA & Dec worm wheels = 180 tooth
Worm period = 8 minutes

Don't know any of the motor gear reduction ratios.

Hope that helps.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for the note but I had them already. It's the other stuff I was wondering about.
Clear Skies,
Tommy

I just opened the RA housing on mine to try and count the teeth on the worm drive gear and the motor transfer gear. On each of these I counted 42 teeth. I'm not 100% sure that's right as the quarters are tight and even with a flash light it was difficult. I counted both 3 times and came up with the same number, though that could just as easily have been from me going a bit cross-eyed while doing it.

As Joe pointed out, the worm period is 8 minutes, or 478.6894 to be more precise. (This measurement came from the CGE group on Y!, though for the life of me I can't tell you how it was calculated.)

In pempro, I did absolutely nothing to the SW and it gave me all of that info...I didnt have to calculate, or know..ANYthing..

Are you running the latest versions of Pempro(iirc, v2.17 or something..)? and also the latest ASCOM drivers/SW??

I have never used the "refine" mode in Pempro, and have never seen the need as just using 'standard' curves adjustments gets me under 6.5" PE/ptp..without it ~14"PE/ptp

just a thought..

Tommy,

I did manage to find this over in the CGE group.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CGE-TelescopesUNCENSORED/message/24750

I created a definition file and compared it against one of my previous runs and it looks to match up.

I'm curious to see if this lines up with your data as well.

That looks like just what I'm after. If I get a chance, I'll snatch a screenshot of PEMPRO and post it for comparison. Thanks for finding hte link.
