C6R on CGEM new
      #4562157 - 05/04/11 08:43 PM

Can I mount a C6R OTA with a stock dovetail on a Celestron CGEM mount or do I need to either change the dovetail or use some ADM accessories?

Javier

I have the dual Vixen/Losmandy dovetail. I was unable to mount my SN6 until I got an ADM vixen dovetail. The EON was the same thing.

As I recollect, the CGEM uses a Losmandy sized saddle, whereas the C6R comes with a Vixen type dove tail bar.
So your choice is to either replace the dovetail bar with the larger Losmandy type (the cheaper option), or replace the CGEM saddle with an ADM dual saddle so you can mount any type dovetail bar on it.
With my Atlas, I installed the dual saddle. But I went further and also replaced the Vixen bar on the C6R with a Losmandy type bar from Astronomics, the Astro-Tech badged bar, 13" in length.
Both help really stiffen the mounting of this large scope, and the Atlas/CGEM size mount carries the C6R very well.

You thinking of letting the 12" LB go?

Maybe, just a thought at the moment. I'm trying to make things "simple" and not have too many choices.

Jav,

What is your final scope wish list?

I'm happy with a DOB and 6" refractor for home or dark site use and my 4" refractor for travel. In the end the 4" refractor will ride on the AS-GT and the 6" refractor will ride on an Atlas or CGEM. My ep's are all Radians and my TV Plossols will be up for sale soon. I don't use them much so off to a new home they go.

Too bad it didn't workout with my and my SCT. It was one of those marriages that needed a divorce and someone needed to pull the trigger.
