Last night I observed with my 15-inch despite the pretty poor sky conditions, but I was able to get nice views of a few globular clusters. In particular I was interested in M-5 and M-62, and I made sketches of them from my drive way. I used a 8mm Orion Stratus eyepiece and a TeleVue Paracorr, which yielded a magnification of about 250X. The seeing was fair, but it did shatter these globular clusters and a few others into stars. Like the drawing I made of NGC-3242, I made them right from the driveway.

This is the drawing I made of M-62, whose lopsided, comet like appearance was obvious.

Taras,
These are both very fine sketches of these globulars. M 5 in recent years has become my favorite globular in a large scope with its spirals of stars like a pinwheel. Nice work

Beautiful work! I spend all my time stairing at galaxys, and at the end of the night I try to treat myself to some 'eye candy' to relax before going in. Well after seeing your' work, I think I'll give some globulars a go with my pencil. Would increase the amount of time I could observe. Thank you for kindling this flame with your' fine work. Clearskys, and many of them, Dave

Nice work, Taras. You've made the globs appear luminous. How did you do that?

I've seen them better than that with an eight or ten inch telescope from a dark site, light pollution really hinders what you can see even when an object is visible from a city. Even a six inch plainly shows the lopsided nature of M-62 from a dark site, but it takes a fifteen inch to start showing the stars from my house, the cluster otherwise looks like a comet through smaller apertures.

You've managed to get some nice depth into the GC's. Along with an almost silver sheen too. Lovely stuff.

Taras,
Excellent observations of M5 and M62. You have captured both globular clusters very nicely. Thank you for sharing them with us all.
