Here is my first attempt at sketching. Sun on Mai 8, 2011
Hardest part was the disk background. At the bottom of the disk is a small paper defect that got darker. I do not have a scanner so I took a photo, added the dark background in Gimp and adjusted the white balance so it resembles the color of paper.

Very nice! It can be a little difficult to make out granulation in white light. the seeing and transparency have to be darned near perfect for it, especially at low aperture.

I actually made a sketch of sunspots to my notepad just for fun while we had our first picnic of the year.
After that I decided to go to a art supplies store and buy some paper, 3 pencils and a stick of charcoal to see, can I actually do it by following Jeremy Perez instructions on June 2010 Astronomy Now.
Erix, I can actually see the surface but it is one of those mirage type of experiences. One moment it is there and then it is gone. "Granulation" on this drawing is actually a caused by the surface of the paper.
Jef De Wit, I used a 25mm EP and for sunspots 5mm Hyperion and 7.5mm TAL Plössl with 2x Barlow. I have a 90mm f/6.6 refractor.
I think I am hooked! Thank you Jeremy!

Skoop,
That's nice work for a first try. What type of white light filter did you use?

The sketch shows well what happened at the sun ths day. Congratulation!. You may consider to add additional detail skecthes next time: You scope shows more than you can show in a whole disc.

I made my own filter from AstroSolarTM Safety film.
I made it 2 parts so I can replace or repair the filter in the holder. Filter disk is made of thick black velvet (flocking?) paper. patent pending

You are absolutely right. Here it is. This is not the original but I redraw my rough sketch today.
