This night we have a hazy sky. Hazy skies have often steady air so I decided to bring a scope outside. I selected an area with some distance from the terminator. I sketched Delisle & Co some years ago with deep shadows. But for tonight I concentrated more on the subtle shadings of the surface surrounding both craters. The instrument was my new baby, an 8 cm Apo. I used 120x und 137x.

Very nice sketch! There seems to be quite a lot of detail ivolved with these craters, based on your depiction.

Uwe,
Excellent sketch, you caught these features with good lighting. You always pick good targets with fine illumination.

Uwe,
Very well done drawing of these interesting features. They catch the eye because they are relatively isolated out on a smooth mare. Did you know that the mountain between the two craters, Mons Delisle, is also known as the Shark's Tooth?
Here's a sketch I did of this area under similiar lighting conditions for comparison.

Dear Brandon, Jef, Frank, Ed Tom: Thank you for your comments.
@Jef: I compared this small Apo two nights ago with my Mak. The difference is very small:
- At the moon I had the impression that I saw a tiny bit of more details in the Mak. But the APO image was contrasted which helps to differentiate subtle shadings far away from the terminator. At Saturn the image in the APO looked notable sharper. My wife could confirm that.
These findings were at moderate seeing. May be the difference is more remarkably at very steady air.
Dear Ed, which a surprise! Thank you for that sketch. I did not know the "shark tooth".

Uwe,
An excellent observation of the craters Delisle and Diophantus. You have recorded the pair very nicely. Congratulations on your new 8 cm Apo. I look forward to more observations made with this instrument in the future. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
