light filling this trailer park
      #4615912 - 06/02/11 12:26 AM

I live in a trailer park, when I first moved in they only had a few likes on poles around the driveay. Now that the park has been sold to new owners, this lightpolleeters have had fooldlight put on the out buildings, it use to be dark here but now it's like staying down in the center of L.A. with all the steet lights. no night a new set of two floodlights are now lighting up that part of the park.

so when I pay mt space rent now, on the bill I print

" Kill the Lights"

Have you talked with the managers/owners of the park? Have you talked with some of your neighbors to see if they might go along with you to shield the lights? This would be a good beginning.

I've talked to the guy who is the manager and he has passed the info on to the owners. they want even more light to be put up. after all, they live down in Los Angeles. and the people that are not hepping any are the cops, they have said it's much better now that it's not as dark as it used to be!

the manager has talked to them and now they are saying that this will look at the parks power bill in 6 months and then will tell us if they will do anything. Plus as I said, the local cops have told them that they like comming in here now that there are more lights.

last night I found that the owners had had the manager install one more set of floodlights just past the pool and yet it's not used after 4pm anyway. so the light level in this place has gone to a higher level now.

Seems that you are facing a frustrating future. Sorry about that.
Try to win as much owners as possible for your point of view by inviting them to nightly stargazing sessions and scare the uninterested ones with higher bills in the future. If they say they want to pay more for extra security, switch over to plan B:

I suppose you moving away is not an obvious option, so inform yourself about the known facts about light pollution (there are numerous sites that have very interesting and correct info about this subject): human health risks (increase in cancer rates etc.), blinding might cause accidents, impact on fauna and flora, extra costs and increase in carbon footprint due to increased power consumption, statistics proving that crime will not decrease with more illumination (more light will be used by criminals, it hardly ever works against them) and spread these facts within your community.

About the cops' point of view: you might not oppose to the fact that there are more light poles, just that they are turned on unnecessarily. I don't think you will object that the lights are turned on in case of an emergency or at reasonable hours. Under all other circumstances however, they can and should be turned off. There should be a compromise somewhere.
I think the cops will agree that turning on the extra lighting only under exceptional circumstances, it will alert the residents more at the correct moments, increasing their safety effect.

I've lived in places before that where not telescope usable.
This trailer park which is not super big and only has 30 trailers in it and I own my trailer. It was a lot darker when I first moved in, for the last 5 years it has been better. The older owner sold this park and the new ones live down in Los Angeles which is well known as a sink hole of L.P. So they have already have gone into the L.A. style of what the call safe. someone has done one thing they'll not like and It was not me doing it. They had a super bright light tat lite up the front driveway area and milboxs. Last night I found that it is out.

The manager has put up floodlights not only by the wiming pool but now on the smaller out building which is not even used in the daytime much, not has a full 4 floodlights on it and the total of all of them has made this place like the are where the owner live which is east L.A.

So he definitely is afraid of the dark. Hard to cure that.

and yet he nows that the lights are bad, he does have a scope of his own and he knows I'm paying for a 12.5 f5 scope too. and he no longer the parks manager, it quit that job and now does almost nothing. he tried to use the scope last week and found that whith all the new lights here he could not see anything at all.

Well, if he's no longer the manager; he can't very well do anything in an "official" capacity about the lights. As far as him now doing almost nothing, perhaps he's earned some time to himself.

Have you contacted the owner of the park directly, to discuss the LP situation? With your new Obsession and no way to transport it to darker sites, you won't be able to use it to it's full potential, where you are. Unless you step up, & try to work with the owner; or new manager, nothing will change.
