Hi Keith,
Disregard my last I found the old post on page 11 with the 411 I needed. Did not get the majic working on the camera last night until the clouds rolled in. Looks like Bin @ 2X2 @ gain 3 for 5~6min using using a 5 frame sequence in RSI Image is going to be the majic combo. For this nebula anyway. Sorry about the redundant question.

Just re-listed. $499 7 day auction with a $799 buy it now option.
Also, are the lenses terribly important? I have two that don't have them.

No, I have no idea what I am going to do with the one I have. They do look like high quality lenses though.

No need to apologize Joe! In fact, I'm sorry for not replying sooner...the entire image (here) was 6X5m Ha + 3X5m G & B, no binning, gain=3. But the G and B data were slightly overexposed as some of the brighter stars exhibited some blooming. I have yet to calibrate the color response. Clear skies --Keith

BTW, did ypu use normal or raw function? I think I should have shot in raw. I went to process tonight and found Nebulosity and DSS could not recognixe the PVCam tiff file. Kinda bummed. Will reshoot in raw next time out. There is definetly a learning process and I am certian we will all have to learn how to deal with the blooming. Those with big chip experience say software like Maxim and PixInsight have functions to erase the blooming. Some say they clone stamp them out. Guess we will find out what will fit in our budget.
Clear Skies!

So last night was first light for the Quantix camera. This is a quick and dirty Crescent Nebula at 600mm f/6 and 2 hours of 300s subexposures in Ha narrowband. No dark subtraction because I'm still learning how to use Maxim DL and I binned the dark frame by accident.
The chip compares very well with my KAF3200 in my QSI camera. Although the 3200 has 90% QE vs 70%, the 6303E's 9um pixel size (vs 6.5 um in the 3200) makes them very comparable in sensitivity. The 6303E however has a massive 4x larger FOV than the 3200 and I definitely need to use a field flattener with it.

Nebulosity and DSS will work with the tifs. In RSImage, save the files as 16 bit tifs. Remember, if you save multiple exposures you will have to convert the "stack" to individual files, which I do with ImageJ (link) - see my post on page 9. You can use other pieces of software to do this but you have to be careful that you maintain the 16-bit format. (For example, another piece of freeware that I highly recommend, IrfanView (link) can convert multi-image tifs but it saves them as 8-bit files.)
The camera ADC is 12-bits, so the top 4 bits are zeroes. So if you read the tif into Nebulosity the histogram will appear to be squeezed to the left side of the graph. The data is there, its just in a smaller range (4096 levels vs. 65536 for a full 16-bits). So you can multiply the image by 16 ("scale intensity" under the "image" menu) and the data will be stretched over the range.
So I have been taking darks and flats as tifs and processing everything in DSS, then saving the result as a 16-bit fit file which can be read directly by Nebulosity and AIP.
Clear skies! --Keith

Nice image Jim! Yeah, you know you have a big chip when you suddenly need to buy a flattener...For me this was fortuitous, because I bought an EdgeHD 8 in the winter and a AT65EDQ at NEAF partly because I wanted to have flat fields for a 350D. I have to admit that this is a nice problem to have...--Keith

So here's a proper shakedown image with the Quantix, 5 hours of Ha and OIII data with 10 minute subexposures. There is still some peripheral field distortion because the separation between ccd and FF is 10mm off of optimal. Make sure to check it out at 100%, the detail and performance of the chip is outstanding!

Progress! I've got my adapters for the fast camera lens and for one of the Quantix cameras. I also bought a docking station for a Dell Latitude. It takes PCI boards as well. The system is up and running. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to get an image through the lens.
Also, got some reject components for my instrument idea. I now have enough to do a proof of concept for it, so hopefully will get it up in a couple of weeks.

Does RS Image soft has a PDF manual somewhere?
my meade DSI guider is conflicitng with quantix camera aquisition (2 refuse to to work at the same time in Maxim DL), so I might just end up using RS image for quantix and let maxim DL guide through DSI...for some reason in maxim DL both cameras want to be under ID 1...not sure what the workaround is...if I put guider under ID 2 it will not connect at all ...
thanks, ALex

Why not just guide the DSI with PHD and keep Maxim DL for Quantrix control.

I am having guiding issues with PHD, while maxim seems to work jus perfect, I know I can probably waste a night or two trying to tweak PHD, but since maxim seems to be perfect under current settings, I am just puzzled why both cameras can't work together in maxim...I suspect it's because they are both under ID 1.....and once I pit either of them under ID 2 it will not connect...is anyone using Maxim fir imaging and guiding having the same issue or knows how to solve it?
Thank you, Alex
