Hello, my name is Ezio and I write from Italy. I subscribed to your forum not only to share astronomy, but also to learn English (I need it) ... I'm building an aluminum equatorial mount. The bronze gear has 180 teeth, while the worm is steel. In the future I'd like to connect the PC to the mount with perhaps starry night, which motors you Recommended: stepper motor, or motors VDC, or Brushless? The size of the mount are similar to the Losmandy G-11. Thank you and forgive me for my english
Ezio

Welcome to cloudy nights!
As you mention, your mount is like Losmandy. Losmandy sells a retrofit kit for mounts as far as I know there can be others for sure. Good Luck

Hi Ezio,
If you choose the Losmandy Gemini-2 retrofit, that will deterime the motors available to you. Either the Losmandy standard dc servo motors or the bigger Maxon dc servo motors. Other motors may be possible, you will need to contact Dr. Rene G. at the Gemini web site.
If you choose the SiTech retrofit, you may be restricted to a different set of motors. Contact SiTech to find out.
Optic-Craft has links to still other clockdrive and GOTO vendors.
Good luck on your project.

The SiTech system works with Gemini equipped mounts with either the standard Gemini servos or the Maxon servo motors.

Ciao, Ezio, I only can say that my G11 works very well with Astromeccanica stepper motor (DA1 type) and Synscan goto system...
Another cheaper solution could be the rajiva littlefoot vpower with two stepper motor... I used it with my ex GM8, goto only with a pc, but other way I don't know...
I forget before...sorry for my english like Ezio... I never post for this reason... now I win with my ego

I suggest to subscribe to group called Roboscope on yahoo groups. This group is dedicated to retrofitting Meade DS goto system to different mounts. Your mount could be bigger than what DS system may handle, but I remember seeing pictures of some big scopes driven by DS motors. Alex

Thanks for your help.
I show you a photo of the base of the mount.
There is still much work to do.
As soon as I finish other pieces, I will show you the progress of work.
Your advices are well accepted.
Hello,
Ezio

Join the PICgoto Yahoo group group, too. They use steppers. Just picked up some bipolar NEMA 23s here (US) for $4 a piece.
