vector star map

Hi Everyone.

I'm trying to lay my hands on a digital image of the entire night sky (star atlas style not a photo. I could scan or photograph a large chart but that would be a huge pain! and I'd also like a vector version (eps illustrator). Any ideas on where one might get such a thing? I need it for an art installation

I don't think anybody has ever done that. I do vector and bitmap work, and I think a tracing algorithm would just choke under the scope of the thing.

Mathew, our illustrator does this every month to create our centrfold sky map. He uses Adobe Illustrator. The stars are plotted first by Roger Sinnott using a custom program he wrote.

That sounds like a monumental undertaking.
