Apollo 18 Movie Review
      #4787736 - 09/04/11 02:12 AM

Hard to watch, fuzzy footage. One of the most stupid sequences is of astronauts going into a crater shadow using a strobe light instead of a flashlight. Why would they do that?
The whole premise of the movie was silly and unrealistic. The moon rock monsters were just plain ludicrous.

Do not waste your money on this movie. It just blows chunks.
It should have been called the "Apollo Blair Witch Project".

So they don't look anything like the real moon rock monsters? I figured it would be a stupid movie but I had hopes that it wouldn't be. I guess I can save my money.

The last time I saw Moon Rock Monsters was in an old 50's honker called "Missle to the Moon". There were also scantily-clad Moon babes and giant sawdust-filled spiders, IIRC.
Did Apollo 18 have Moon babes?

Sometimes a sci-fi film is so bad it's good. Unfortunately, this doesn't sound like one of those times.

There was an old 60s vintage Hercules movie with moon rock monsters. Hercules Against the Moon Men. Rock Monsters, scantily clad babes, and big Alan Steel as Hercules throwing benches and tables and stuff at everybody all the while glistening with whatever Crisco-derivative oil they used to make him gleam. Rock on!

It sounds just as realistic as Apollo 18.

Chris

For "rock" monsters, I always liked the old movie "THE MONOLITH MONSTERS". At least it had something of a story line, a beginning, and a halfway decent end. Clear skies to you.

Thanks you too for saving me a few dollars. I'll wait for it to come to television :-) .

On a related note, I think they even blew it with the title. Technically, wasn't the mission to Skylab Apollo 18? (Though it was never officially designated as such, instead it was called "Apollo-Soyuz")

Craig

Of course, there was the rock monster in "Galaxy Quest", but it wasn't on the Moon and there were no scantily clad babes. But still.

Usually the trailers for a movie ARE a good indicator of whether a movie is good or not. A bad movie only gets worse the more trailers they show.

Screams and flashing lighting are definite turn-offs even if I'm in the mood for horror, which is not that often these days.

If they can bombard me with ad trailers for a movie and if my impressions remain neutral to even slightly interested then it is probably a decent movie at least. Apollo 18 is not one of them, however. Your review pretty much confirms my impressions from the trailers.

Yes - a fun 50's (1957) B&W SiFi film starring Grant Williams who also starred in The Incredible Shrinking Man (also a goodie)

Oh, gawd, so there are three of us left alive on Earth who remember that film? lol Watched it in the early '60s on a black and white television when I was about six years old. Avoided black stones for about a year after that.

Make that 4 of us... OK, I can't say I "remember" Monolith Monsters, but I have it on DVD and I love it! It's so different than the typical scifi stuff, very refreshing. A "monster" that can't move, how refreshing!

The Apollo 18 movie is a bad, bad effort. No sense of moon or deep space gravity, no understanding of sound in a vacuum and no idea of how truly FAR the Soviets were from a manned moon mission capability. I could go on, but the bottom line is- if you have to pay to see it-DON'T!

I saw it, and my family wanted to go the next day. I told them I liked it as a "B" movie, but recommended they not see it since I didn't think they would like it. I described it as a combination of Blair Witch and newly discovered old classified staticy Appolo mission movies put together chronologically.

I went to see it Sunday with a friend from the observatory. We both enjoyed it, but we're space geeks. It's no 2001, but a pseudo-alternate-history and not your typical cookie-cutter Hollywood action flick is a refreshing change. Hey, it's about a trip to the Moon, what more could you want from a movie?

I would compare it to a similar style of movie as Cloverfield. I haven't seen Blair Witch so I can't compare there. I also like going to see movies without knowing much about the film before seeing it-I tend to enjoy the movie more. I didn't read the reviews beforehand, only saw the trailers.
