it's a nice sunny day when the ups man appears earlier than expected because he said my delivery took up half his truck. my wife is mad, because i was suppose to clean the garage while waiting for it...oh well, now it's here and it is more important. I put the tripod together(it is big and beefy and will hold that 12" no problem) but I put my william optic 132 FLT APO on it, because i have had that scope for months and have been waiting for THE mount big enough to handle it. i will try out the 12" OTA at a later date. the instructions were not bad...not quite dummy proof for me...i like to put things together and then read instructions. i had to reroute the wires once, so not bad. it took a couple of hours. it is a dirty job. of course, now it is cloudy and going to rain, never fails. pictures to follow, i'll let you know when i get good enough weather to test it. the mount itself was a lot larger than i expected. it came put together except for the counterweight bar and electronic control panel (which slid on with 2 thumb screws). this was the dirty part...the counterweight bar was covered in a light oil. it is big and heavy, unbelievably so...the threaded bar is still in the air, but seems to work well. i think if you slam 2 weights together, it may be hard to get them apart, and i only needed one weight at this time. star lock scope slid in and locked down, easy. then the william optic. the system was stiff, so balancing was tricky. it uses allen wrenches to loosen the RA drive and the DCE clutch. i preferred the celestron CGE mount design, it was just one lever. but i think i got a good balance. i was ready for alignment, but that isn't possible, but i went through the motions anyway. it was really quiet and smooth. it is suppose to be clear tomorrow night, if so i will give it a real test run. the only other problem i had was when opened the mount box, it had foam wrapped in plastic and the plastic tore in transit. there was foam particles all over everything. maybe there would be something better for packaging.

I dont understand how were not seeing large number of first lights/reports...these started shipping two weeks ago...unless they count shipping as 5 units total.

When do you think well see official reviews from magazines? Do these guys usually order these mounts and/or receive any for testing?

Far as I can tell, they are just now getting to end-users. Most magazines will just order a mount, just like you and me.

I'm so excited I think I wet 'em. Tell your wife that hundreds of CN'ers think your garage looks perfect and cleaning would just deter from your primary duty.

Wonder why they cover the bar in oil? Is it not SS?

Looks like you are getting a good deal since the price just went up (a lot!)!

Clear skies,

my guess...they probably used oil with a lathe to cut the threads on the stainless steel rod.

Mine shipped yesterday from what I was told. Depending on where it shipped from I am hopeful of having it tomorrow or Saturday. I'll video the unboxing and the assembly. Anyone in So. Cal wants to come over and help just send me a PM.

i had a cold, windy, but clear night last night. i turned it on and it found home, then is slewed to polaris. i manually moved the mount to polaris and hit enter, then it slewed to the bright star in the west. it showed up in my mallincam view for a split second until starlock took over. then it followed only starlock and the star was out of view. i tried many times, with the same result. i did the auto align OTA from the menu. it asked me to center 2 stars with the remote. then it slewed back to the first star and it asked me to align the william optics to the starlock by using "the hex head screws located at the bottom side of the OTA dovetail." this is where the problem is...there is no where to adjust the starlock. the dovetail is one solid piece, which holds the starlock and the OTA. i tried for 4hrs to get things lined up, the manual was no help. so this morning i called meade, they have one set up trying to figure out the problem...so far no luck. for the one's interested in the PEC, i downloaded pempro from CCD ware free 30 day trial. as i mentioned, i was so busy trying to get the starlock lined up, i did not have much time to work on this. there are no drivers for the lx800 yet, it should have worked with the lx200 drivers, but it would not recognize the lx200 drivers either.
