I just called the store that I ordered my mount from and asked them if my LX80 mount I preordered last year shipped since Meade claimed their shipping and they said Meade is only shipping one mount to each store. I'm guessing for display. Last week after emailing Meade they responded that it will be another few weeks, again.

Do you have a e-mail address? I thought customer service was only available via phone or the USPS?

I posted on Meades facebook that I called the store I preordered my LX80 mount from last year about my order and they said Meade was just shipping one to each store and I added that I was guessing it was for display and they replied that those ones were to fill preorders and the rest of the preordered mounts would be shipped over the next few months. I preordered mine last year and I hope its not going to take a few months.

Update for you, I have had an LX80 on order at Meade since Sept 19th, 2011. I just received an email from Meade (about an hour ago) stating the mount has been released from pre-order.
I would imagine it will ship any day now.

Just for your info,

Paul

Boy! how convenient that Meade announces a price increase across the board on the new LX800 and LX80 lines effective May 1st before it seems anyone can get one in there hands to review.

People have already received LX800s and apparently the LX80s aren't far behind. That gives users a good month to review them, a lot of the good and bad should be known before the price increase.

I've seen a total of 1 LX800 arrive on here. That was yesterday. Weather needs to co-operate a bit to really review. And by my math, we have 4 days left until the price increase. I don't think there's going to be a very big sample set of reviews.

Clear skies,

Could of sworn I read May 31st somewhere, but I just checked Astronomics post and I guess it is the 1st.

My bad.

EDIT: Ah, I was thinking of the LX600 introductory pricing which goes until the 31st.

Probably better off waiting for the Skywatcher anyway; it will almost certainly be better than the LX80 and Meade has just reduced the price differential. LX80 Mk1 is for high risk takers imo.

Or the LX80 could be just as good, or it could be better, but we don't know. We won't know how well either of them perform until they are both in the hands of users(I also haven't seen pricing on the skywatcher yet).

How do you know how much the Skywatcher is going to cost? And how do you know it'll be better?

I'm wondering if this price increase is due to manufacting costs has been the reason for the delays? It doesn't appear to be large by percentage...10% average or so. For the 10" sct combo it's still cheaper by close to $400.00 comared to the Celestron CGT w/11" sct. For the LX80 it still seems to be a good deal, providing it performs good enough.

If the LX80 turns out to be as good as its specs, I'd probably pay $1,500 for it. Of course, that's a pretty big "if".

Which Skywatcher is everyone referring to? Is this is a competitor in the LX80 price range? Or does it have similar Alt-Az/Eq feature?

A $200.00 increase on a $800.00 mount is slightly more than a 10% increase. Can anyone say bait and switch? I have been waiting for months for reviews for the LX-80 and the new refractors with the intent on getting either or. Hearing of a price increase before they are in the hands of anyone-let alone shipped yet, I am to say the least confused and am now looking for a different set-up! What is Meade thinking? Almost jumped on the Celestron when they were on sale and if they were to go on sale again I for one would not hesitate again. After saying that I hope the link is accurate.

I'm sure they're thinking they have to make a profit or there's no point in them providing product.

Costs are still quite low, IMHO. The $1,000 LX-80 has similar specs to the $1,500 CGEM plus it can be an alt-az as well (which the CGEM cannot). The 10" SCT will now be going for around $1,400, while the Celestron 9.25 goes for $1,300 and the 11 goes for $1,900 with the CGEM. The new f/8 optical tubes will be going for something like $2,400 for the 10" and $3,400 for the 12". The Celestron EdgeHD11 goes for $3,000 with the CGE PRO. These prices all seem quite competitive to me.

Like I said, these things need to perform as advertised. If they do (and it's still a big "if"), I think they should be quite successful, even with the price increases.
