OK, after all this, and with my wife's blessing, I broke down and ordered one. Hopefully if there are any issues with the early ones by the time they get to my order it'll be corrected. No wait, seriously. Yeah, I do know Meade's recent history with the RX400 which was discontinued pretty quickly. Hmm, come to think of it I haven't seen an LS mount/scope either. Oh no, what have I done?
In all fairness to Meade THEY must think it will be worth the higher $999 cost or they'd have never raised the price, especially if just to recoup some of the investment and discontinue it, too. My fingers are crossed and if it lives up to a good portion of the hype I'll be pleased. Meade's insidious advertising plans have worked on me.
In addition, the only other Meade product I've owned was an 8" LX200 classic purchased used in 1999 or so. It was a great scope, good optics, crazy accurate go to, and when polar aligned on a super wedge I took some really nice wide field piggy back images.
I will report back when I receive the mount, to be used with the TV85 and the Lunt.

The LS definitely had a rough introduction, but I've heard nothing but good things over the last year or so.
As far as the LX80 goes, I just found this image from NEAF:

I want all of that shiny goodness.

Anyone catch the caption on the photo that said "Shipping at the moment...autoguiding module will be available early Jun along with most mount shipments per Meade Rep."...
Shipping now huh? And what's this about an auto guiding module? Does that mean the price increase includes the module or are we paying extra on top of the $200?
Either way I put my deposit down before the price increase on the 10" so my hope is my local shop doesn't get mine in until after someone has reviewed this and I can make an educated choice...

The "autoguiding module" does nothing more than add an ST4 connector to the mount.

Nope. But I will say I believe the controller has been around for a while...just not in the U.S.
I stumbled across this controller well over a year ago when it was being advertised as a product of some Chinese manufacturer who apparently sold the rights to the product to Synta. I don't know that it has actually been available on the market anywhere yet.

I'm having a hard time believing that an 800 dollar mount can be "all that". Just seems odd to me, considering the competitions prices.
Anxiously awaiting some reviews...

The dealer I ordered my mount from told me that the autoguider port will be a $50 add on and it will be available in June. The "mount only" configuration is supposed to ship mid-May. Since some of the mount/scope config is now shipping I think mid-May is possible. Since the autoguider port is an option I doubt it will be included in the $200 price increase.

I just called the major telescope store I ordered my mount from last year and they told me that Meade has only shipped one LX80 mount to this stores customers so far and it had a scope on it.So I just called Meade customer service and he told me that they havent released it yet even though they sent a few out. And that they might release them by the end of the month and hope to start shipping after that. They tell me the same story every month. I wonder how long it will take after that to get caught up.

They just said its going to take a couple of months to fill the backorders. I wonder if the LX80 was put on the back burner so they could get the LX800 out since they make a lot more profit on it.

I think it's just the difference in the number of orders, the LX80 is much more affordable than the LX800 and so there are a lot more orders for it. Even if they ship the same number of LX80s as LX800s they're going to fill the backorders for the LX800 before the LX80.

I already had signed up, I don't visit often, but once signed on the link went directly there. Nice looking mount, nice review however without any actual trial under the stars.

I wonder what the hold up is. I ordered one Tuesday 5/2 from W-Hills in LA for the old price $799, thinking it would be 3 months before it would ship to me because of the backlog. I received a UPS tracking e-mail, I will have it Monday. Wow, just have to let the wife in about it.
