Thought I would throw my saturn submission in. This is the first time I have ever imaged saturn, I only got my scope last november. Despite poor seeing, I am very happy with results. Used a NS8SE with a mallincam color hyper camera. Astrotech 3x barlow also used. Regv6 for stacking, wavelets, and rgb align. De-interlace filter in PS.

Jmel,
as an aside to processing, its also important to capture planetary images when the target is at its highest elevation, the reason for that is, when at its highest elevation, then you are shooting through thinner atmosphere compared to when the target is lower. Also i understand your plight of mostly average to bad seeing, and these targets are really difficult to capture well when the atmosphere is unsteady.
Out of hundreds of images i have captured of Saturn, only two ever came out any where near what i really liked, these were taken several years ago, one image when the rings were closed the other i think was a few years previous.

Just to add, no matter what equipment we use, the above two points remain valid, high elevation, steady seeing!
regards,
Tom
wow that second Saturn is terrific.

Hi All,
I tried to capture Venus in conjunction with M45 last week. I used a Nikon D7000 at 200 mm riding on top of the 8SE. I was only able to capture 13 min total time with 30s subs before the trees obscured the shot. Stacked in DSS and some processing in CS5.
Thanks for looking!
George

I think Haseeb's photo should be christened the "Red Marble Mars" like the Apollo 17 picture of the Earth was, don't you think guys
Re: George's M45 - did you add the diffraction spikes during processing? Venus is displaying lots - it looks like the Enterprise has gone to warp. Love the M45 group though

Thanks guys. The Venus diffraction spikes are real and from the camera lens itself! I added the spikes to the seven sisters in order to frame the shot better to my eyes.

Hi George,
Wonderful capture of Venus and M45. Good to see something that resembles what you see visually at the eyepiece. Might even be able to recreate the spikes with a bit of off focusing.
Hi Haseeb,
Thats a really nice shot of Mars. Looks great against the jet black sky.
Thanks fpr posting.
Regards. Peter.

George, I got my Astronomik CLS II clip in yesterday and gave it a try but found the lights were coming out 'bluish'. Is this normal? Thanks.

Thanks all for the kind words on the conjunction shot. It was a lot of fun to capture is transient event (once every 8 yrs).
Haseeb: yes that is a trait of the CLS filter. It requires adjustment post-processing. I find the IDAS filter to be more natural and tend to use it more frequently.

Well glad to hear that, I think. Btw, will using CWB or Auto white balance help? Thanks.

I haven't used the CWB but believe others have. If you do a search on CN this has been dissected by more experienced users of the this filer.

Thanks George. I took short subs yesterday night of the Lagoon which was a bit alongwith the Moon. I will post that image at the other advanced forum and hope you see and give your view. I used 'auto' setting on this.
