Played around a bit with Noel Carboni too much I guess but do tell me which one you think is better.

Haseeb,

Two wonderful images with the 8SE. Your Saturn image is excellent!!

I personally prefer your second star cluster image. Very colorful stars.

Best,

George

Hi Haseeb,

Great shots again. Your Saturn is a sight to behold.
Nice to see the Omega open cluster. It's touch and go as to which is the better of the two, the first giving a nice wide view and the second showing much more colour and detail. The quality of both is excellent.

Thanks for posting.

Regards. Peter.

Wow! Great shot on Saturn, Haseeb! I'm jealous because I can barely see the darn thing! When the clouds clear around here, the seeing is terrible!

I think I like the first Omega better. The Carboni effects seem to glom up the center a bit in the second, but I like what it does around the outskirts. In the first one, your stars are amazingly sharp and tiny pinpoints! But at the same time, that gives it a bit of a flat look. Still I like the first better from a purist standpoint of an accurate and excellent rendition. For a suggestion of some artistic additions, I think I'd try to brighten up the center of the globular just a little, and apply carboni only to the areas outside of it.

-Dan

George, Peter, Tom and Dan, thank you.

Dan, I am still trying to come to grips with NCT as well as layer masks. I will keep trying though with your advice in mind.

Hi Haseeb,

Great Saturn and very nice OC! Interesting you mentioned layer masks - I was going to recommend to use them so you end up with the core of OC in the first image and the outliers in the second. I like Dan prefer the first image but the outer part of the first is worth saving. But both of them are very good. My dos centavos!

Hi All,

While my refractor was collecting data on M101, I did some piggyback imaging with the 8SE. I used a Nikon 80-200mm ED lens stepped down to f/4 on a Nikon D7000.

I went after M46 and M47 with 50x30s subs and 10min darks at ISO800. Manual focus.

I was also able to capture the planetary nebula in M46!

Thanks for looking,

George

Thanks Skip, need to learn about layer masks.

George, those are wonderful images. Did you experience any CA whilst using these lens? I tried using once 50-250mm at around 190mm and was surprised at the amount of CA, perhaps to do with this Canon lens? Yours have come out really well though.

Hi Haseeb,

Thanks for the feedback. Sometimes it is nice to have a larger FOV.

The Nikon lens wasn't bought for AP (we have had it for a few years) is a fast lens f/2.8 with ED glass. It can go to 200 mm. I have not detected any signifcant chromatic aberation probably due to the ED glass. I am sure there are nice Canon lenses as well. The lens is very heavy however!

Best,

George
