I didn't try NGC 4194. The full moon was blasting away coupled with sporadic clouds. Having waited for a week and even though knowing fully well objects near the Southern Pole are not going to rise too high, just couldn't resist taking some images.

Took two.

NGC 3532: Open cluster: 29 x 30 secs, no darks or flats. AR 102 on CG-5, processed with PSE 9 and Noel Carboni.

Just wanted to check how long can one go for a bit of AP. This was pretty low. Just 2 x 30 secs.

Omega Cen with AR 102.

Hi All,

I will post a few images from the previous weekend even with the moon up but the sky was cloud-free!

First is a single 3 min exposure on M46 (with planetary nebula), M47 and ngc3423. It is low in the sky and trees interfere but was pleased to grab this on my refractor (630mm). I want to try this again with more subs and perhaps try my 200 mm DSLR lens to get a broader view.

George

Here is M97 with M108. This was 28 180s subs using refractor (630mm) on CG5.

Hi Haseeb,

Great shot of Omega Centauri! IMO, that glob is even more awesome visually. It is huge and spectacular! Some pros say that it is technically not a globular cluster, but rather the remains of a galaxy captured and ripped apart by the Milky Way, leaving only the original core.

Not been able to look in for a few days, but i see some very nice images guy`s, lovely image of M97/M108 there George.

Haseeb, totally agree with Skip with regard to your Omega Centauri capture, really like the way you got stars to the core, easy to forgive the noise given this was just 2 X 30 second subs, great work .

I have just come across this neat little FREE plug in for Photoshop if anyone is interested, not totally sure which versions of P/S this will work with, but certainly works in my CS3 version. Its basically a de-noise plug in that i think is a winner.

As an example, here`s a shot i captured last year of IC63 Ghost of Cass, the top image is my original, which was somewhat noisy, the lower image is how it looks after using the plug in,

Personally i prefer the lower image after denoising, anyway if anyone`s interested in this free plug in then here`s the link

Tom.

Two more great images again George. Lots to see in both of them.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the improved Ghost of Cass. I still have the original as my desk top background pic.

Regards. Peter.

Thanks Skip and Tom.

Skip, I had a glimpse of it last year but I was a complete newbie. While we did see cluster of stars, it was pretty low on the horizon inspite of us living in the South. Wonder when would be the best time to view this as its almost near the South pole.

Tom great images as usual and that de-noising looks awesome. I will check to see if that can be added as a plug-in for PSE 9.

Thanks Haseeb and George for your comments,

Andy (Mushroombill), has reported that he successfully got the plug in to work with PSE 6, so i figure it should work ok with PSE 9 too!

regards,

Tom.

Hi All,

Enjoying a few days off this week and looked through some recent acquisitions over the past month.

Here is Markarian's Chain of galaxies. I counted at least 18!

This was 12 4min subs with darks on my refractor (630 mm FL)using a CG5 mount. Stacked in DSS and played with in CS5.

More to follow.

George

That M 51 sure looks sharp. Btw, your Praesepe has so many star. I tried though short 30 x 10 and got this which shows only the brighter stars with AR102 on CG-5.

Lagoon Nebula, AR 102 on CG-5, 22 x 30 secs and 15 x 30 secs darks. Processed with PSE 9 and Noel Carboni. Used Astronomik CLS II and the Moon was below the Lagoon.

Tried two different processes but what really made me jump with glee was seeing the 'red' nebulosity appearing on the lights, perhaps due to CLS II.

And a bit of spikes though I would welcome anyone who can help bring out more nebulosity with their uber skills.
