Do they sell the Skywatcher mounts in the States or do I have to get the Orion Sirius? Anyone have an idea how much one might save at NEAF?

James (going to my 1st NEAF early 4/28!)

I haven't seen Skywatcher mounts sold here. But the Orion Sirius is the same mount so it's not an issue. Have fun at NEAF! I went last year and really enjoyed it.

Don't worry Tel, you will be there in spirit . I will try to take your advice, but it will depend on the discounts available. I hate to pass up on a bargain. I'll just use my wife's rationale "but honey I saved $500 on that $2000 telescope! " I'll give a full report and tally after the show.

James

Hi James,

As long as you don't use my wife's rationale:

"I've just bought 50 cans of dog food for the knock-down price of £0.20 a can" !

"Admirable, .......... if we had a dog" !

Have a great time at NEAF. I know you'll spend your money wisely !

Best regards,
Tel

Not me either Tel,

James, i`m probably trying to teach my granny to suck eggs here, but just also remember, if you go for a GEM mount and your long term plan is to use guiding, then you will require a mount with a guiding port!, i know that might seem really obvious, but not all GEM mounts come with a guide port, some are like mine were before the upgrade to goto, and was just a duel motor driven mount.

regards,

Tom.

Hi one and all, as most Brits here will know it has not been much good here weatherwise of late, its been well over a month since my last imaging attempts, all very boring and all i can do is look back at some of my earlier images, to see if i can tweak them any further.

Having seen some nice lunar images in the various forums i went through some of my old captures of the moon, and found this one of the Bay of Rainbows(Sinus Iridum), which was a tad noisey, so popped it into Photoshop and used the Ximagic denoiser plug in to clean it up,it certainly helped with removing the noise without loss of any detail.

My Avitar at least seems to like this one

regards,

Tom.

Hi Tom,
I don't blame your avatar, I like it too! I just can't do those flips like he can (cool avatar). If I tried that, it would be very painful and would involve a long hospital stay!

There`s always the Lunar Rover Skip, its still up there just waiting for a mad cap driver, Just think of the fun you could have with that

Tom.

OK Tom - fly me to the moon. I would love to give one of the LRVs a spin. Especially the one in the mountain valley near the Hadley Rille and Hadley Mons (A15). Or maybe I could use one to get to Plato crater and putts around Pico or find my way into the crater so I could see those elusive craterlets up close and personal!

Under abysmally turbulent air conditions and probably somewhat obscured by the hot steam rising from the month long, rain sodden earth of our procalaimed "drought" ridden country under its first glimpse of the Sun since, it seems, God was a lad, I managed to get this poor shot of Venus this morning around 10:00h UTC.

No work of art, that's for sure, but it serves to display cusps and the increasing crescent phase as it moves towards its solar transit on the 6th June. It also appears that the UK has not been alone in its recent cloud cover !

Very disappointing ! I was hoping to at least have imaged a Venusian surface volcano or two !

Conditions:

Seeing: Daylight. Awful ! Much air turbulence.

Camera: Phillips Toucam SPC900NC.

Capture: Stark Lab. Craterlet 10 F/s. 3000 frames total.

Processed: R/Stax 6 + P/Shop CS2

'Scope: Nexstar 8i OTA.

Mount: Skywatcher HEQ5Pro.

Thank you for looking.

Best regards,
Tel

Tom.

Last time i got out to do any imaging was the 28th March according to my hand control, but last night offered some clear skies so i took the advantage while i could to grab some images.

First up M92, 30 x 30 seconds, in mono,

Second up M13 30 x 60 second, also in mono,

Finally after shooting these globs my real target for the night in narrowband, was IC1396, the Elephants trunk. 8 X 10 minute subs and 2 X 15 minute subs, no darks applied, shot in mono H-Alpha.

Equipment used, Skywatcher ED80 DS PRO,ATIK 314E,Baader 7nm Ha filter.HEQ5 EQ mount

Guiding...Skywatcher ST80, DSI mark 1 CCD, PHD guiding software.

regards,and thanks for looking.

Tom.

Thanks Tel and Tom for posting your images. So pleased you a were able at least to spend some time in your respective observatories.
Thats a good shot of Venus Tel under the circumstances.

Thanks for the three D.S.O Tom. They are all of high standard.

You two have given me hope for tonight. I still have patchy cloud but hopefully it will clear. The wind is picking up but thats not too much of a problem with the Obs.

Thanks for posting.

Regards. Peter.

Very nice images, Tel are those "C" cusps or "D" ? And Tom me thinks you might be exagerating a little on that elephant's trunk !

All kidding aside, beautiful images.

James
