Thanks guys but it's only P/Shop manipulation.

If the data aren't there, then there is very little anyone can do to enhance them. Such exceptionally good data provision in this case, is of course to be fully credited to Dan's capturing skills !

Nice one, Dan !

(And thank you for indulging me) !

Best regards,
Tel

True Tel, but if one does not have the knowledge or ability to manipulate the data you are left with less than spectacular pictues. Pat yourself on the back , since my arms are not that long.

James

Thanks for the different perspective on this one Tel. I don't have photoshop at the moment, so the final stages of image processing are a bit tricky in Pixinsight. It appears photoshop can pull the levels off without too much of an issue at this resolution, but at full resolution the noise came through too strong.

I decided to leave the backgrounds a bit brighter (they're not really supposed to be fully black anyways) for a few reasons, the main one being that some of the star cloud structure broke up if I pushed at it too hard, and that the noise in the darker areas was hard to control unless I pushed it quite hard.

I'll take another look at the data when I get home from school today (and maybe process another image or two). Two midterms - wish me luck!

Very nicely done milby , this target always surprises me as to just how hard it is to capture well, its low surface brightness makes it a difficult one,you also held the core very well with no blowing it out, a great result.

best regards,

Tom.

Hi astroman68, nice image of M27 given the very short stack, had a quick play to remove most of the red cast throughout the image,i`m sure others could do better but here`s what i got.

best regards,

Tom.

Yes that has improved it, thank you. Think is is the light pollution even though I use a neodymium filter that causes the cast. I tried highering the black level on the red channel but it takes the red out of the nebula fringe. A compromise was reached.

Hi Paul,

Using Photoshop CS2, --- (on a cloudy morning today with little to occupy me --- idle hands, devil's work and all that ) --- I isolated both red nebula fringes, ("Lasso") and then "Select"(ed) "Invert"(ed) to allow me to adjust the background via the red channel in "Levels".

I then "Deselect"(ed), removed the background noise via my "plug-in" "Xmagic Denoiser", added a little "Blur" and finally adjusted the "Saturation" minimally.

I hope the attached is now more in keeping with what you were perhaps looking for ?

Best regards,
Tel

Hi Paul, Tel.

Tel good job on retaining and improving the red fringe in the neb,and just like you Tel, i was at a loose end and had another go,i noticed the slight green tinge to the background, so i took your redo jpeg image of Pauls and popped it into nebulosity, i then used the background colour adjust filter to remove the green tinge while keeping the red fringe that you improved on.

BTW Paul, as you say its all about compromise, this is after all only a 2 X 2min stack of data, plus while i enjoy messing with other images in most cases we are trying to adjust jpeg format images which as you know are compressed, but considering all that, you pulled out a very nice image. , nice job.

here`s the resulting image.

best regards,

Tom.

Hi Paul,

A very nice capture of M57 inclusive of its central 15th magnitude star, (White Dwarf) ! You've also caught the outer, red halo well.

Congratulations !

Best regards,
Tel

Thank you Tel. Had to do a close crop to get some detail mind. As you can see from a single full frame.Which is normally 3072x2048 in RAW mode.

Hi Milby,

I've just taken a look at your capture of M33 from the 15th Oct.

As usual, (I never resist on dull days), I looked to see whether there were any more data lurking within it and came up with the attached merely by manipulating Photoshop CS2's as follows:

Auto Levels.
Auto Contrast.
Auto Color.
High Pass.
Saturation.

My "messing" aside; in my opinion the data you captured on that night, has produced one of the best versions of M33 I have seen here on CN and elsewhere too !

The outer arms of the galaxy are well defined, the core is not blown out and the dust lanes are very prominent.

I hope others share my view.

Congratulations and best regards,
Tel
