Well, I don't know what Mr. Stonebreaker paid, but I got mine for $100 from Craigslist. It had some parts missing from the focuser, and no rings or dovetail. There is one for sale now on Astromart for $300, with rings and dovetail.
Since I needed to repair the focuser anyway, I looked into replacing it altogether with a 2 speed Crayford. Pretty much any focuser I decided on would have required extra machining to fit it to the scope, so, after discovering that the MoonLite included a custom adapter to screw directly into the existing threads at the back of the Burgess tube, I decided that that was the way to go, and hang the expense.
So, including rings, dovetail, diagonal, focuser, finder, and shipping, I ended up paying close to 6 times the original price for this scope. I use it on my CG5GT.
Would I make the same decisions again? In a heartbeat!
Mr Stonebreaker said it all. This scope is a keeper, and the MoonLite.......... Well, everyone should own one, just so they have a better idea what the word "perfection" means.

Agreed. Good review.. This is one I lusted after for quite awhile. Had a few shots at one a few yrs back, but missed..
I do admit, of the 120+mm Achros I've looked through, this one is fer sure a winner..
I'll still keep my AT111EDT though..

These 'shorter' tube 5" achros are the best buys in the used refractor world right now. From the homebuilt ones using the f5.5 Surplus Shed lens right up to the AR5's at F9.3.
In between are the ones like yours, the ES127 F6.5 and the slightly smaller 120mm F5s and F8.3's. Many used OTAs are selling for as little as $200

Hi Chris and WW. The original (2003) retail price for the optical tube assembly with case, diagonal, finder, and a couple of Plossl eyepieces was $489 or close to it, as I recall. Some of them may have been sold for $100 less....

I have serial #48 of these. Nice scope and thanks George for an interesting review. Certainly a value for dollar scope that incorporated two notable refinements, being a helical R&P focuser, and a push/pull objective cell

I bought mine as pieces left over when Bill Burgess was clearing out his warehouse of parts. I got a tube, objective, cell and dewshield from him for $50.00 + $10.00 shipping! I added a 3 knob Moonlight from Ron when he was closing out the focuser for this scope for $100.00 his regular price- so I definitely got a bargain on mine!

Great write up. I can't believe the dollar price of these scopes. Incredible value.
