Astrometry and Hyperstar/Fastar/EdgeHD?

Hi,
I'm considering one of the new C14 EdgeHD telescopes. At some point, one of my goals is to try some scientific imaging projects (astrometry, photometry, etc.). Some have mentioned the benefit of a wider FOV as well as faster imaging train as being helpful. The Fastar/Hyperstar option would seem to fit that bill.
How suitable is it for astrometry? My understanding is it is important to be able to accurately pick the center of the stars for accurate readings and that certain optical defects can be more difficult to deal with than others.
Has anyone here had any experience with it?
Also, given the images I've been seeing from the new EdgeHD's in standard configuration with perfect star images to the edge, I assume they are well suited to astrometry in that regard?
Thanks in advance for any insights!

Hi Gord, I just posted my results in imaging NEO 2001 LO7. My astrometry results were very good with a residual of aournd 0.1 arcsecond, with my best images being 0.07 arcsecond residuals. That is with my Explore Scientific ED 127 APO with my AstroTech AT2FF field flattener.

Hi Jerry,
I was just getting back to these old threads. Thanks for pointing out your posting on your experience doing astrometry. That was some number of months ago. I assume you have done more of the same since then?
So, this was a known object and you were doing a followup observation, correct? I take it this is the most common type of things that amateurs can participate in? I hear that it takes really big equipment to find anything new these days, except for the occasional lucky event for a patient and persistent amateur. Still, interesting stuff!
From the details you posted, it looks like you are able to go quite deep for modest equipment. Is this just about the minimum you can get away with? Does your 8" RC offer much more capabilities?
I'm thinking I need more mount capabilities to effectively use the C14 for this. The TDM like you have would seem to be a good option since it appears you are needing to get 2-3 minutes a sub to go deep enough.
I'm looking to see how possible it might be to start out with some of my smaller gear. Camera is probably my biggest hole at the moment. Besides the astro video cams, all I have are a Meade DSI Pro and a Canon 400D.
Thanks for posting your experience. I was an interesting read!
