What's the aperture? I saw the secondary was 1.83", but I missed the primary diameter somwhow...
Looks really nice!

It's burried down in the middle of the article... 13-3/4", so he's calling it a 14".

Wow! What can be accomplished when experience, access to tools, and high-end materials are mixed. Impressive. Most impressive. I would be interested to know the optical background of the author.

Well, I was going to enter my humble folded refractor in the ATM contest, but after seeing this, why bother?

Tell me about it. My poor Tasco rebuild looks like it doesn't have a snowball's chance in a supernova right now....
I sure wish I was that handy with powertools!

Mr. Forde must be a man of many talents. I am genuinely impressed with his efforts and results. Actually having looked over the article several times I am absolutely flabbergasted!! True genius at work here.
Incredible job,
Dan

I had to join this forum just so I could comment on this scope. I saw it at St. Croix State park in Minnesota. He was helping at a public star party there. When I first saw it I thought oh yeah like that thing is going to work. My first view was of the double double in Lyra. Even though he said it was only 70 power each double was cleanly split with dark inbetween. I asked him to raise up the power. What resulted was something I had never seen in a telescope before. The stars got further apart but they didn't get any bigger. I think they actually may have gotten smaller. I counted at least eight star diameters between the componets. Just black featureless space. When I got home I looked up the seperation and his star diameters had to have been less than a third of an arc second. The bugs got pretty firece so I had to get the kids inside. That ended my observing. I have never seen this telescope again until now. I tell people about how weird looking this scope was and they think I am nuts. I am finally vindicated! Chad and Kyle you guys owe me a beer.

That looks more like a web camera image instead of a DSLR shot of Saturn, in terms of detail.
If you've ever tried to image Saturn with the Rebel you know what I mean.
Not trying to be a doubting Thomas, just am curious how he did it (and without tracking too??).
