Hi Preston,

Let me now if you need any fast scopes. TeleVue MPT, Coulter CT-100 or satellite scopes. I will be at NEAF, so it will be easy for me to bring something.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Preston:

If you're going to have scopes back into the 1800s, you probably want an "Antique" class.

Antiques probably have a somewhat different, though overlapping, "urgency" with regard to preservation and educating today's amateurs as to their still wonderful utility in this day and age.

Weight driven drives, setting circles... how many people today even realize that it's possible to do a Messier marathon with setting circles? How many remember doing that? How many digital imagers realize how possible it is to do digital imaging with an antique or classic scope?

e.g., I once put my Sbig ST2000XM with AO-7 on a stock 1980 orange tube C-8 and got perfectly round stars during 8 minute exposures without a drive corrector and with sloppy polar alignment, just to prove to myself that it could be done!

And I've done planetary imaging with my Cave 8" f/7 lightweight deluxe, similarly "imprecisely" polar aligned, and with no drive corrector. It was a pain to center, but it worked!

Wish I could go!

-Tim.

Hi Peter!

Wonderful! I was going to contact you about the possibility of setting up the Satellite Telescopes in a display. The MPT and the Coulter would be excellent scopes to have at the show.

Many thanks!

Thanks for the input (as always) Tim!

I'll definitely consider the antique terminology.

Wish you could be there!

Never say never.....

Awww come on Steve~! Take some quality time off and come to NEAF!! I mean, this IS the first Classics Display EVER there at NEAF! This would be so neat to have Tom Trusock interview us there to see what us guys are all about.

I think you guys are underestimating the drawing power of even a small tasco has. I took my 155 Unitron to Pinos and a small crowd was gathered around it.
(If you take it, they will come!)
The scopes your talking about will get a bunch of attention, You guys will start a collecting craze and craigslist will be picked clean.

How much room will there be? It might be necessary to plan specific scopes ahead of time since we all have a lot of interesting offers. I could see limited space used up.

Also, if anybody is traveling by Denver, and I can't make it, I'd consider volunteering something totally different from production scopes, early 1900's.

Neil

Hi Folks!

I've been busy at the base but will give an update and respond to PMs by Friday.

We already have a very exciting line-up and will have some room for a couple more scopes but the space is filling up!

Forget the telescope I like what is standing next to it!

Seriously that is an unbelievable machine. Sort of a way back time machine to the Victorian Era, pre-Zeiss, of Clark
and others! Wow.

Dick Parker is working on something similiar see link:

http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Board/atm/Number/3484751/page/7/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/o/fpart/all

I sure could use that sort of shop talent for my 1920s Zeiss 110mm.
