Denk Std vs. Siebert new
      #4847560 - 10/06/11 04:51 PM

Does anybody have an experience with the Siebert Black Night BV?

The ad copy is very attractive...
SCD focusers, dielectric coatings..

I'm curious if these are a leg up over Denk Std in optical quality, and at least a match in build quality.
Or... is the Black Night just a Siebert rebranded chinoviewer?

I'm put off by the spotty track record of the various chinoviewers, so I've been thinking about Denk Std.
The high end is too far up for my casual use with a modest 90mm APO.
Yes, a Mark V would be swell, but not in the cards.

Thoughts?

No, it's a distinct product and definitely a significant step above the generics.

Thanks, John.
I've been reading some of your older posts and gaining a lot of knowledge.

I'm curious if the superior quality is the sole province of the Denk-II, Baader Mark V, and Earthwins..

You could probably call Harry at Siebert and he could explain the difference between his product and the various Denk models etc.

Might not be the most objective opinion, but . . . I did have a conversation with him once about this and he is, for obvious reasons, extremely knowledgeable on how all the products are constructed and the differences in each in comparison to each other and his products.

I'm interested in optical quality at the Televue or Denk-II level.
High quality mechanical construction is requisite.
I have great respect for Harry's gear, but he does have a dog in this fight, same as the other guys.
There is a lot of value found in comments from the knowledgeable members here, who own and use these on a regular basis.

In another thread, it is pointed out the Denk Std is not dielectric coated, where the BK is.
I want to avoid the red/blue eye thing, ghost problems, etc.
I assume Denk buys OEM prisms, as does Siebert and TV.

I'd like to have a BV for both my modest APO and Dob.
A few powers of OCA would be nice, so I can keep EP magnification low.
Manual changes don't bother me.
