Fuuny thing is, I knew Helder seemed familiar from someplace outside of Facebook, but I couldn't place where.
Now I know, it's Cloudy Nights!
I guess it's a symptom of how much time I have been spending on Facebook, and how little I have been on CN lately.
Helder - I'm gonna hook you up.

My current collection of 3 new meteorites. All these were acquired from http://www.kdmeteorites.com/ (just wanted to drop a shout out, as Dana and Keith were great to deal with).
I went nuts and ordered some more, so hopefully by January the collection will grow. I also have nice samples coming from Mike @ http://www.galactic-stone.com/ those should be coming in tomorrow.

Hi Davio,
My son took the other meteorites. He wants them in his room.
The Campo is incredible. It really is beautiful as is the Pallasite. I'll post more as soon as I get them, I am going to order some smaller Riker cases and put each specimen into a Riker case.

Those magnets are fun. And they can be used to detect minute quantities of metal.
I'll hook you up the next time around to make up for it.
And let me know how those stabilized specimens stand up to the other irons and pallasites when it comes to oxidation. Every time I see a batch of these go out, I'm curious to see how they stand up. I've sent them to all four corners of the world, and no rust yet.

Hi Paul,
The 2 books are:
Meteorites by Caroline Smith and Meteorites a journey through space
The Caroline book is a small history of meteorites, its a quick read and gives some basic information. I would tell you to skip it. Its a quick read, but written for high school level.
The Journey book is a much more detailed account and pretty much gives one the basics of meteorites. Its not a college level book, but gives you enough details and some cools facts (like why most Meteorites fall at 4PM), that I would recommend it.
Neither are authoritative works, if some one could recommend one of the those, I would appreciate it.
BTW I get a large package tomorrow. I'll post pictures when I can.

I love the look of this one. The stony inclusion is super nice, it really has an organic shape.

My current meteorite collection, the Toluca, Canyon Diablo and Franconia slice are stored. The latest batch were acquired from www.kdmeteorites.com they have seriously nice specimens and not bad at all. I have a couple more stands and riker boxes coming in to store the samples and when showing them. I may get 2 more but thats it for a while.

I know this is bad but I ordered labels (thanks for the link Davio) and a request for a Sikhote from the Tucson rock and mineral show . If we get a bonus this year I will get a couple more including a Gebil, large Gold Basin and a Seycham. Otherwise my collection will stall for a while as the hobby budget is mostly spent. What did some one say about a second job????

Hello,
My name is Helder and I am meteorite collector.
My collection grows, first off, I got 2 new books. Rocks from Space (still reading) and IMO everyone that has an interest in meteorites should have this book.
The second is Falling Stars (by Mike Reynolds) and its a quick read, nice stories, but I finished it in 1 night. If your teenage kid is interested in Meteorites, I recommend it.
I also ordered labels and a 20 and 40X loupe.
I also got the Ikea case to store my collection, in a week or 2 I will get everything in place and move my collection.

So the wife was complaining that meteorites have taken over the office. And I disagree, my in-laws left for Portugal so my Christmas gift came out. Its the IKEA display case that Davio recommended. The astro photos are mine and the scope is a 9.25 on a CGEM. Its not like I have a closet full of telescope and accessories (oh wait I do, never mind).

These are the 2 bottom shelves, I still have space for a microscope and more Meteorites. I also have a rechargeable dehumidifier. The really small meteorite is the Sikhote that I had as a micromount, until I get a bigger one, this will have to do.

M31
M11
Next week, I will probably replace M11 with the Rosette and the Horsehead (below is a small Rosette).

A couple new ones are coming including: Glorieta siderite, Toluca fragment, Odessa individual, Bassakanou and Gao.
Really wanted a Glorieta Pallasite but they are expensive. I think these will be my last major purchases for a while. We did good at work so I got a bonus, the majority of it went toward my wife (she got 3 rocks also and a piece of metal) but a little bit was for my hobbies.

Many of the Odessa specimens I saw were small, this is a larger sample that I see no rust on. It looks like a smaller version of the Toluca.

The Glorieta was found by Ruben Garcia (you can read all about it here ). I purchased this specimen from Ruben (along with several others including the Odesa, Toluca, Seycham, Mundrabilia). While not a Pallasite, it is a really nice looking piece. It looks like the head of Ram.

I have a small (46 gram) Sikhote Alin coming in, this is not a fragment, it has nice regoliths. After that I don't have anything on order.
I was thinking a Franconia Iron (its a H Type and only 1, the Franconia is available) but they are small. Or maybe an Imilac fragment. Maybe a kilo Campo? Maybe a Gujba.....
So many specimens, so little money
Any recommendations?

I took the Glorieta under the microscope and there is a piece of Olivine sticking out(too small to see with the naked eye) but its there and its a beautiful golden Yellow color, so my siderite is actually a Pallasite !

This is sad, I have no more meteorites on order
Name: Sikhote Alin
Type: Iron Group: IIB Structural Classification: Coarsest Octahedrite Location Found: Sikhote-Alin Mountains, Maritime Province, Russia Size: 46 Grams
It has nice flow lines and several regoliths. The invidual looks very nice and while a smaller sample, I can see why people pay thousands for these.

I have always considered the Sikhote at the top as far as favorites go. I have 5 in mt collection. The biggest is 481 grams with flow lines and" REGMAGLYPTS" in them like yours. You call it a shrapnel look but I like to refer them as a tortured look also.

Got a new one.
Name: NWA 6953
Type: Stony/Iron Group: Mesosiderite Structural Classification: ?? Location Found: Morroco Size: 4 Grams
From Galatic-Stone: "Northwest Africa 6953 is an interesting new mesosiderite whose unique nature is a result of its composition and the collective effects of long-term terrestrial weathering. The metal content in NWA 6953 has experienced dramatic alteration and has almost entirely been replaced with the iron oxyhydroxide goethite. But it’s not the oxidation or alteration alone that makes this meteorite fascinating. Studying how the iron oxidation process takes place on Earth in NWA 6953, a predominantly orthopyroxene-rich meteorite, may have huge implications for comparing how iron oxidation may take place in aqueous environments on other alien worlds. More importantly, studying this meteorite can potentially reveal clues as what to look for in discovering other highly terrestrialized meteorites that until now have mostly gone unnoticed."

My first piece of another planet. I am really drooling but I had in my hand a piece of Mars. The improbability of this rock being blown off the planet and landing on Earth is incredible. Considering that it was observed and fresh adds to the uniqueness of it all. I wish Eric (Meteorite Market) had a larger piece.

Thanks Carol,
I actually sold a couple of eyepieces, telescopes and other gear that I wasn't using to get a lot of specimens. I also traded several with Mike for different specimens, and I used the bulk of my hobby budget to get what I have now. Now if the weather would clear up, lately all I can do is solar imaging.

I know this is way off topic but that H alpha image is just incredible! One of these days I am going to have to take the plunge and buy a dedicated solar scope. Okay back to meteorites...

Hi Helder,
Some really nice specimens... I enjoy seeing all your new meteorite collection additions. I only wish other members would post photographs of their specimens so we can enjoy their new additions (or old favorites).

I agree; but mine are micro specimens, so photos really don't matter.

Carol,
Some nice close-ups would be nice to see. I still believe size doesn't matter...

Here's a 0.363 gram D'Orbigny. Small but very beautiful...

It would take a lot more magnification than what my camera's macro has.
