Focal Reducer for Vixen VMC200L - Is it special?
      #4971881 - 12/18/11 12:20 AM

I want to get a focal reducer for my Vixen. Is there anything special about the Vixen reducer or will any work? I understand what they do but not totally how they interact with the specific optics of he scope.

As far as I know, the Vixen reducer is optically matched to the VMC optics. I have not see people using non-Vixen reducers with these scopes.

I have one. it have a specific correction for the vixen VMC 200L and 260L. The focal lenght is longer than the reducer corrector made for SCT. And it is nearly impossible to adapt the vixen on a SCT or the celestron reducer on the VMC. threads are very différents. The vixen reducer have 52mm of clear aperture and the celestron have only 41mm.

When i try to put the celestron rc/ff, the rack and pignon focuser is racking in a lot, so you can't focus with your camera.
Hope theese pictures help you.

You can focus with the vixen reducer and a camera, but not by a wide margin

The vixen focal reducer is bigger and have better multicoatings than is counterpart the celestron rc/ff (made in japan). i tried to take pictures with them but it is very difficult to image without autoguiding now. New cameras are so sensitives ! However the VMC 200L + corrector seem to have better corrected stars in the corner than the celestron + rc/ff.
