I stack with the DSS. Everything else is going pretty much on manual. I usse the self timer and then this is it. no capture program. For some reason the programs that were suposed to operate the camera remotely and were packed together with the camera does not allow me to control thecamera remotely ( Some idea?) . I will look for these focus mask.Actually the focus is going pretty much by try and error.Morre errors.kkkk. thanks

I think that is how we all got started. I remember using a remote trigger and a timer! Get one of these.

broca mention is a must when starting. for focusing you might want to built one your own using this link: http://astrojargon.net/MaskGen.aspx this is a mask generator, people use different materials.
For more longer exposure you may consider later a little scope for autoguide and guiding camera or webcam, and together with this a laptop and so on this will end very very complex believe me, but at the same time interesting.

Thank you. The mask is exactly what i need . I will built one as fast as possible. And get a remote trigger also. About auto guiding i will have to wait a bit. I´m trying to keep it as cheap as possible. I believe that will improve my polar alignmet skilss a lot. Speacially living down under kkk. There is no Polaris .

If you do have some sort of computer available while imaging, BackyardEOS makes focusing, framing and capture significantly easier. Free 30-day trial

The usual things everybody has to work on when getting started:
Focus, guiding, polar alignment.
Also, as far as processing goes, you don't want to set the histogram so the background is pitch black. More like dark gray. Looks better and not as starkly contrasty. Very good initial results, btw.

How easy is it to make a Bhatinov mask? It seems like a lot of work for something that is pretty inexpensive (OK, major lazy factor here, but living in an apartment, access to good tools is challenging:-)). Besides, I am assuming that the purpose of the generator is so you have a template, but a scope too big may exceed a sheet of paper.

I,m wondering how to do it. My Scope is not all that big. But I need to cut the mask very precisely ( I supose) and scisors is not exaclyfriend ofmine. i imagine that is possible to have some kind of computer tipe of hardware that will do the job. You guve the template and a machine cut it to you. Maybe it become more expensive than buy one but i live im Brazil so i will look for some digital bureau and check for possibilities.

All you need is an xacto knife and some poster board. Here's my first mask for my Megrez90.
