Excellent review, excellently written. Always a pleasure to read your work my friend.
As I am sure you know, and for the enlightenment of others, the objective is actually 60mm f/16.7, and was produced by Carton of Japan. I've owned two scopes with this objective, and still own one of them. I procured my objectives, as I believe Richard did, from Sheldon Faworski, a member here going under the handle of MASILMW.
Mine is outstanding also, and although classic in appearance, it is not the ultra classic appearance of the one you write about. Mine is done up in the basic black and white livery.
Mine also uses the same focuser, produced by Dan Crawford of Crawmach, and as you state, it is an exceptional focuser.

Very well done.
If you're of a certain age (40 or more?) a quality 60mm Japanese long focus achromat is an arrow you should have in your quiver, no matter what else that quiver contains.
These little scopes deliver both nostalgia and performance in spades. And gods, are they ever photogenic!

Thus far I've managed to get my 60/1000s and 60/900 out under suburban skies only. I'm really itching to take one along on one of our dark sky outings.
Some of my fondest childhood memories relate to a 60mm achromat. In this case, a Jason 60/700 on a spindly alt-az mount. Finding anything not visible to the naked eye with that little torture device (the mount, not the scope) was a challenge. Success, however, made you feel like a conquering hero returned, treading the rose-strewn cobbles.
Our club is considering a Messier Marathon bid from a reasonably nearby gray zone (~4 hours south) this March. I'm sorely tempted to field a 60mm achromat for the event. Just out of spite.

I guess it's now safe to admit it - my first scope was also a Jason, the mighty 454x Explorer model. Bad mount, ridiculous eyepieces, and dangerous solar filter. Fortunately, my interest in astronomy was strong enough to survive it!
Sometimes think I will find another one on FleaBay just to rescue and repurpose the objective. From that era the lenses were certainly Japanese made and of real optical glass.
