I am not much of a painter, but I can appreciate the difficulty of infusing color into a dark scene. This could be an example of lighting for some of the telescope companies that come out with images of people using their telecsopes in broad daylight in their ads.

Good bit of motion too. Nicely done.

Ajay

Thanks!
I've been asked why the scene isn't lit with red light; the illumination is from the laptop controlling the DMK camera.

I like that. It has a rather mysterious quality to it - not really quite sure what words to use to describe it. The lighting really captures the sensation of being under the sky at night, though.

And there's nothing like a bit of multi-tasking, too!

John

There's a lot of nice painting in there.

I dig the different positions of the scope, movement overtime but the right hand pointing down across the body, I'd rather see the hand not so distinct and not cross your body, it brings too much attention to it and I don't see a reason why.

just my critique.

you have a great painterly style.

ok I see the laptop. the fingers are really cool

Impressive. You've captured the motion and sense of activity really nicely. I love the painting style as well. How large is this?

Fred

Thanks Fred. This is 24 x 36 inches. I've done additional work to it since last posted.

Hey. You've done this before. Nice piece of work, Sean.

Joseph

P.S. May I ask why oil, and not acrylic? Buttery feel, richness of color?

Love the balance of the compostition, by the way.

Thanks- yeah, I have done this before. Not very common knowledge, but I've been drawing since I could walk, and earned a BFA in Painting from Massachusetts College of Art (class of 96). I've been painting for more than 20 years, but not many with reference to astronomy.

I prefer oils because I can rework areas for days, rather than having to race the drying process of acrylic. When I was in college, acrylics just were not as good as oils, though that certainly has changed in the last decade.

Yup. Keeping a spray bottle by your side can be a pita.

Keep up the good work. I got my eye on you now.
