Nice review!
I received the same setup late this past summer (~July 2011) and have nothing but great things to say for it. At about $1000 (+/- $100 or so depending on sales, etc.) I think this is a great deal. Goto's have nearly always been in the eye piece with 2+4 alignment. Depending on how much time I spend getting good polar alignment I can regularly get 30 second unguided images and with guiding I've had luck at 2 minutes. I'm just learning about guiding so I the setup might do better than that once I know more.

Haseeb,
Excellent review. Very informative and covering all aspects that anyone interested in purchasing this scope would want to know. If I were in the market for such a scope your article would certainly be greatly influential in my decision.
Great review.

I have thought that this scope was an excellent combination of scope and mount, so it's too bad that Celestron no longer sells this combination. The weight and focal length of the 6" OTA are very little stress on the CG-5asGT mount, so I would expect good tracking accuracy and accurate finding with this load. It sounds like Mr. Modi and family will have a very nice scope to use for a very long time.

Thanks Jim, Bob, Ed, Mike, Don and the rest. Just realized my review was up.
End: After I do the 2 + 4 star routine, I follow this with Polar align and get by with 45 seconds exposures. Only problem I now face are the Periodic Errors.
Here is an image of M 42 taken with this set up and Celestron's 0.63 FR.

Nice image! And particularly interesting colors.
I see that you have the same problem with internal reflections that I do around bright stars at the periphery of the image. I also sometimes get these halos from stars that are just outside the field of view as well. I'd love to know how to get rid of them. Is this why people flock their tubes? I'd always thought that was a bit excessive, but if it got rid of those reflections I could see the utility of it.

End: Those internal reflections you see are the result of imaging from a city with sky glow all around. If you are referring to the reflection on the lower right, that may be due to a bright star nearby or perhaps due to the Dew shield.
Btw, it was Jim's / Tel's / Artic Eddie's detail explanation on how to Polar align which got me going. Thanks Jim.

Yes, I was referring to the ones in the lower right near your name. I think they are being generated by the bright star there. I get them sometimes even when they are just outside the field of view and they are even worse when I have the reducer attached.

Those haloes are coming from the small optical baffle tube inside the OTA. If you look through the rear of the scope with the EP removed, you will see some bright shiny surfaces on the end of the baffle. Apparently these didn't get darkened properly. There was a thread here on CN describing this phenomena a couple of years back, IIRC. I'll try to find it. It certainly isn't due to the FR. Had the same on mine and I had to blacken that last bit of baffle tube to eliminate it.
Regards,
Scott
