focusing knob in cold weather
      #5026325 - 01/19/12 08:35 AM

In the cold weather - below 20F, I find that the focusing knob on my Orion Vista binoculars is difficult to move.
Suggestions? In normal temperatures it moves easily.

I had a 20x80 binocular quite a few years ago that when used in 10° cold temps, it took two hands to turn the focus knob. Fixing would require disasembly of the shaft are regrease with a better lubricant.

Not an uncommon problem, also happens with scope focusers as well, 20F , thats warm compared with the temps I,m seeing here in South Ontario,as stated by edz no quick fix, if regreased with a lighter lube you may find in warm weather it moves too easy or grease starts getting everywhere, Dave.

Would a hand warmer temporarily loosen the focusing knob?

Would it be practical to keep it inside your coat?

I forgot about that option. I may try it.
