I also found the twilight II needs some bolt tightening on occasion. Pier extension in particular and the vixen clamps once so far in 8 months. Always good to do a quick equipment check before mounting anything. The longer OTA's make reaching the tensioners a stretch if you're short like me, but still able to reach them with my 127 at a seated position.
Also need to remember to always tighten the altitude before removing an EP or the front of the scope will swing down pretty quick.

Ditto on what skyjim said. I have the ES Twilight II mount and I replaced the head with the CT mount because it's smoother with the slo mo controls. I don't have a heavy refractor like the 152mm but the CT mount could handle it without breaking a sweat.

Hey Dave there is a Canadian Telescope alt/az mount(just the head for $300) and its rated for around 30 pounds with slow mo controls, its built by the same company that builds your scope in china. I belive woodland hills sells this mount cause CT doesnt sell direct to the states. All you need to find is lets say someone selling a CG5 tripod, newer style 2" SS legs or any sturdy comparable tripod and that might be another one to go with. I like the ES mount but after owning the orion like mount found myself wanting fine slow mo controls. Jim
That looks just like the Stellarvue MG2 head. Very nice with the slo mo controls. A Meade heavy duty field tripod would work great ith it. Wonder if a ES or Orion pier extension would work easily with it?

Thanks guys! I just ordered the CT mount from Woodland Hills...with tripod...Seems to be what I am looking for especially with the price of $499. Will let you know how it works after I get some time in with it! Dave

I should work out well for you, I have heard some very nice reports from over the pond in EU, I think they brought it out there 1st before NA. Maybe when I go to neaf this year I might pick one up. BTW I had seen your pics of the new frac Jaws, very nice looking scope and that SV focuser look really nice! I hope to read your 1st and second light report on that scope soon, if you like Dave send me a pivate PM on it. Thats gonna look great on the new mount, I tried the AR152 on my CG5 and was not really happy with it and ended up switching scopes and placing the 7" MCT on the cg5, the frac went to the Sirius EQG with the 2" steel leg tripod, much beter on that mount. I bet when you look at M42 that scope is gonna knock your sox off, enjoy. Jim

I bought a Giro for use with my overweight C9.25 and it was a major mistake. Worked great but with the 2 11 lb counterweights needed the whole thing came in at 75 lbs. I'm very strong but moving the scope on the Giro around was really pushing it. Because the scope goes onto the side-as opposed to the top like with a GEM-of the mount taking the big heavy OTA on and off every time I moved it was flirting with disaster. I'm now using the Giro with my IM715 at 50 lbs total and am awaiting the arrival of a Unistar for the C9.25 which will also weigh in at 50 lbs. David

There is no way I would move my Giro mount with my C9.25 mounted on it.

For the price, it is hard to beat the ES Twilight, but I better warn you.....if you don't attach another scope to the other side, that 152mm you have will tax the mount and make the motions pretty stiff. A 100mm or smaller scope works just fine by itself, but if I use my EON 120, I have to add my EON 80 on the other side to even it out. Now, having said that, with both scopes riding on the Twilight, it is very smooth.
That EON120 must be really heavy then. I use my AR127 or my iOptron 150 mak on one side without even making the mount break a sweat. Very smooth. The mount is a tank. My mak with dew shield and 2" diagonal plus 2" Axiom LX 23mm or 34mm SWA has damping times next to nothing. I would guess the fully loaded mak is close to 18 lbs. the AR127 behaves the same. Scope, finder, 2" diagonal, 2" EP and all is ok. I have only mounted both scopes at the same time once, and it handles that weight well too. You have to fiddle with what works best as balance points between the two scopes, but the mak with its heavy dew shield balances perfectly when using heavy 2" accessories so well, that I do not tighten the altitude more than a hair which allows very free movement positioning the scope around. No slo mo on the twilight, but both my scopes have handles to grab when positioning them.
That's not to say anything against the Unistar mount either. Have read lots of rave reviews on it.
I have the pier extension for my twilight II also.
Edit - just read the specs on the EON120. 14.6 lbs. have you tried replacing the gooey Chinese grease with some smoother stuff? I know some others have and it has made a difference. Russ from ES can probably recommend some better grease for it. I haven't needed to, but if I feel it gets stiff, then that is the first thing I'll do. The EON is right there in weight with my scopes (nice scope by the way).
There was no grease on the mount when I got it and it was stiff. I put some superlube on it, which made it better but then made it much worse after some use. I then cleaned that off and ended up buffing the main shaft and using just a touch of silicone lube. It's incredibly smooth now.
Let me be clearer of what I should have said, the EON 120 by itself is just acceptable.....but not nearly as smooth as balanced out with the 80 on the other side. The difference is that with just the EON 120, I have to use my entire hand to move the scope around and it's not as easy to just move and slowly center up the object, it takes some dexterity.....with the EON 80 balancing things out.....I am able to use one finger to lightly push the mount in position and move it to follow an object. The same is true with just the EON 80 mounted by itself.....effortless push with a single finger. I don't consider this a negative of the mount, just a fact of operation.

Another vote here for the Universal Astronomics Unistar. Coupled with the wood surveyor tripod, its a solid setup with very smooth motions.

I have the Unistar with encoders and a Sky Commander DSC. I just bought an ES 152 and am very excited to use it with my Unistar. I use the Unistar with my C11 and that works great. Using Atlas tripod with the head. Favorite setup I've ever had and tried a lot.

After re-thinking my choice, I canceled my order for the Canadian Telescope Mount and placed an order for the UniStar Deluxe on a Meade Tripod. I decided I should go ahead and spend a little extra to get what I really wanted, am sure either mount would have been great. It should be here in 2 weeks according to Larry the owner at Universal Astronomics!! Thanks again guys for helping me spend my money!!! Hope to give a report on the mount in the next few weeks.

Good move Dave. The Unistar Deluxe is a really nice alt-az mount and I believe that you'll be very happy with it.

I am extremely anxious to try out this mount. Since I am a "visual" observer, I hope it does a good job, am even thinking about unloading my EQ mount since the Unistar will be much less weight to carry around.

Just received the 152. Wow. I've had the C6r and the 6" meade so I should have known the size but my mouth came open when I opened the box. Awesome. Rain for the forseeable future of course. New scope and new eyepieces...nothing is more enjoyable!

Yeah, with rain in the forecast, what better things do you have to do than take some pics for those of us who aren't as fortunate? I'm betting that you'll really like this setup.
