Pages: 1 timwetherell sage Reged: 09/03/10 Loc: A Land Down Under Astronomy and art at the Goulburn Gallery       #4929998 - 11/22/11 06:07 PM Attachment (127 downloads) Edit   Reply   Quote Quick Reply   This is a detail from a new work I've created for a show at the Goulburn Art Gallery in December 2011 involving a small Steampunk telescope and a huge wall hanging star map printed onto fabric. This closeup is one of my personal favourite parts of the work, the mobile phone girl. It was inspired by a visit to Blists Hill Victorian Town Museum in the UK. A father was taking his daughter around the museum showing her some awesome things like giant steam engines, a working Victorian foundry in which molten iron was being poured etc, etc. And the whole time she did nothing but play with her mobile phone. I love your web site and your art! The Great Southern Heavens is a fun piece, a great mix of traditional and new. A few pieces of your work, and some of your sketches, remind me of something Jules Verne might have featured in his works, “organically-mechanical” is a phrase that comes to mind. The Oddie Refractor II and The Great Wetherell Refractor are breathtaking pieces that blend art and technology in a most impressive manner, positively wondrous works! I have bookmarked your site and plan to visit often to keep up with your work, thank you for sharing your art with us ... you have a new Steampunk fan. Two of these ... I love the mix of modern concepts into the steampunk - Victorian setting. The subtle, yet elegant, pokes at modern culture (or what passes for it) are expertly done. "Mobile Phone Girl" really gets the point across.
