I bought a pair of these used but note with my glasses on and after looking away I get slight eye strain. Even with my glasses off there is a tad eyestrain but not much.
As you mention in you're article they are good. I can see the 4 trapezium stars in M42 and even from my light polluted area many stars. M31 took up about 1/4 of the field! Jupiter was good, I *though* I could see maybe dark area were belts may have been. The moons were seen ok. I even caught a glimpse of M78 in Orion. And the last gibbous Moon was nice with craters and sea seen easily. I also own a pair of the 15x70's.
